What's your vision?
"Mini Habits for Weight Loss" needs a cover. This book is a sequel to my first book, Mini Habits, which is in 14 languages and has sold over 120,000 copies worldwide (probably more but international reporting is slow). It's been the #1 selling self-help book in the USA, Canada, and South Korea. In the Kindle store, it's been as high as #11 overall and #1 nonfiction on multiple occasions. I expect this book will also be an international hit and it could easily surpass the numbers of my first book. Here are my first two books (both international bestsellers): http://www.amazon.com/Stephen-Guise/e/B00HGY6WPA/ref=dp_byline_cont_ebooks_1 NOTE: I will be active in this contest and give you feedback on every design! The prize is guaranteed. COVER TEXT Title: Mini Habits for Weight Loss Subtitle: Stop Dieting and Change Who You Are Accolade (put somewhere): International Bestselling Author Author name: Stephen Guise BOOK SYNOPSIS Rather than prescribe a specific diet or recommend counting calories, this book is going to give readers a number of "mini" weight loss behaviors they can perform every day (without fail). For example, one push-up a day is a fitness mini habit, and one that I've personally turned into 3-5 days per week at the gym and 20 pounds of muscle. The power of mini habits is that they can rewire the brain to prefer new behaviors, and that includes food and fitness habits, which are the crux of weight loss. The failure of most weight loss attempts are due to poor strategy, short-term focus, and an overall unsustainable system for change. Mini Habits for Weight Loss is the revolution that frustrated dieters have been waiting for. GENERAL STYLE I prefer a clean and simple book cover that's not too busy and is easy to read. I really like subtle tweaks to the cover that represent what the book is about (you can see several examples of this in the "covers I like" section). I am not likely to choose a cover heavy with stock photography, but it can be used well (and I did use it for the original Mini Habits cover). I want it to be obvious that the cover was designed and not text overlayed onto a generic picture. COVER ANGLE This is the special element that will make the cover unique. The weight loss industry is obsessed with short-term solutions for weight loss (and they don't work). Mini Habits are a way to change your habits and who you are, to produce a new set of behaviors that effortlessly result in weight loss. Here are possible angles in no particular order (and feel free to come up with your own)... 1. Incorporate the butterfly from the original Mini Habits somewhere (http://depositphotos.com/35230137/stock-photo-butterfly-on-leaf.html). Since that cover is well known now, that could work to represent the Mini Habits brand. 2. You could put the "stop dieting" and "change who you are" text onto different food items, denoting the greater effectiveness or desirability of the latter. For example, "stop dieting" could be the text on a snack pack and "change who you are" could be on broccoli or something? Just an idea. 3. The cornucopia of healthy food concept could work, but it seems so overdone and generic. What if there was a cornucopia of healthy food and one piece of it set aside to denote the mini habit? Rather than throwing all this on you at once, we're just setting aside one piece, which could be a clever way to set this book apart from the many generic "eat healthy food, duh" books. That could work if it somehow fits on the cover. If you do go for this, make sure it doesn't convey scarcity and limiting your food (rather it has to be clear you're saying that all of the food is available to you, but you only are required to start with a small amount (mini habit). This not a calorie restricting diet or a restrictive system in general, it's a systematic, easy, and controlled way to introduce new behaviors to your life (ex: drink one glass of water after waking up, start lunch by eating a carrot, chew your food 40 times for one meal, exercise for one minute, etc.) 4. Something showing a sequence of small weight loss mini habits/actions. The Korean publisher of Mini Habits did a great job with this concept: http://www.kyobobook.co.kr/product/detailViewKor.laf?mallGb=KOR&ejkGb=KOR&barcode=9788997575336 5. You could try an all text cover. Putting the focus on the text isn't a bad thing because it's a strong and compelling title. 6. Come up with your own idea! This part is difficult for me because I don't have a strong sense of design, and aesthetics are an essential part of figuring out a good way to present the concept. MISC STYLE Colors:Don't use red or black as a primary background color. I like white or off white a lot, but you can use your judgement on colors. Hand drawn: You'll get major bonus points for custom covers. I might not choose it for various reasons, but the uniqueness of the cover is extremely important to me, and drawing it yourself instantly accomplishes that! SJ Scott's covers are a good example of this: http://www.amazon.com/S.J.-Scott/e/B00D60KTC0/ref=sr_ntt_srch_lnk_1?qid=1458756850&sr=1-1 REQUIREMENTS 1. eBook cover (3000 x 4500 .jpeg) 2. 6x9 Print cover PDF at 300 dpi (this will be done later) 3. Photoshop files FINAL WORDS This book has a lot of potential. Its predecessor, Mini Habits, has been the #1 selling self help book in the USA, Canada, and South Korea (and a bestseller in more countries). It's in 14 languages. Weight loss is a massive industry that happens to use the same horrible strategy of dieting repeatedly. Even the books that say they're anti-dieting still use dieting principles and short-term plans. Mini Habits for Weight Loss is a fundamentally different and long-term way of addressing weight loss, and it's going to make a big wave! This is your chance to be a big part of its success; it'll look good on your design resume. A book cannot succeed without a good cover, so I'm counting on you!
