Bad Day at Bikini Beach: The Last Days of Bikini Atoll
Retired Electronic Engineer with B.S. and M.S. from UCLA Author past 12 years. Written and published 6 books. Hobbies: Travel, writing, woodworking, photography
It is the year 1954, and Bikini Atoll, the northern-most island of the Marshall Islands, has fully recovered from Japanese occupation that started in 1914. They suffered many years of brutal tyranny by the Japanese Military occupation, especially during World WarII. After bitter fighting, with heavy losses on both sides, the American Marines drove the last of the occupying Japanese Soldiers out of the Marshall Island. Since the end of World War II, the 160 Natives of Bikini Island lived in peace and harmony. They regarded America as their benevolent protector. What the Bikinians did not know was that in the ten years since the end of World War II, the United States had been locked in a desperate Nuclear Arms race with its former ally, Russia. It was a race to develop the first small nuclear tipped Ballistic Missiles that could travel thousands of miles in a few minutes and annihilate each other's cities. There was no way to shoot them down. These advanced nuclear missiles had to be tested and, because of its remoteness, Bikini Atoll was chosen as a perfect place to test them. The results of those tests devastated Bikini Atoll and forced the inhabitants to flee to other islands to escape the deadly nuclear fallout. They were never able to return to Bikini Island. There was one brave orphaned teenage girl, Leilani Frangipani, who escaped unscathed and refused to surrender to her fate. She never gave up hope of living a normal life. She escaped the terrible nuclear radiation by fleeing to Bora Bora,Tahiti where she finally found lasting love and the family and life of her dreams.
The specific genre for this book is : Historical Fiction So it is based on factual history but also has fictional characters with subplots that involve lots of drama, tension, romance, and danger. Target audience would be male or female, teenage all the way up to senior citizens who are more into adventure books rather than just historical facts.
Book cover type
I am not looking for an abstract cover. I want it to send a clear message: 'Paradise Lost' or perhaps 'Paradise Apocalypse." You can use a different background picture but it must suggest a pristine tropical island paradise with beach and coconut palms that is about to be destroyed by a massive Nuclear Bomb. Because that is precisely what happened. This is the central theme of this book. If possible, I would like to use the cover for both the color paperback and the e-book front page. It must be high definition color. I have a detailed description with pictures that I can send with lots of pictures. The size is 6x9 inches, main font is Arial 12, mood is very dramatic, a lot of tension, I have a few hi res color pictures. I can send the entire manuscript to you with all the color pictures in PDF.
What to avoid
Abstract imagery that requires interpretation by the reader. My detailed book cover design document should answer most of these questions but I will be happy to interact with the designer directly
