jo/slash/eva got their new book cover by running a design contest:
New look for crime thriller series with female protagonist
Check out jo/slash/eva's Book cover contest…
After years of enjoying thrillers and police procedurals by authors like Lee Child and Michael Connelly, Eva was inspired to write thrillers herself. In 2011 she won the inaugural Lucy Cavendish fiction prize for her first novel, The Loyal Servant and never looked back.
Meet Ingrid Skyberg, the FBI's newest agent in London. She's tenacious and brilliant, but when an American student is found dead at a London university, old wounds threaten to cloud her judgment. The police think it’s an accidental overdose, but Special Agent Skyberg doesn’t buy it. The girl was a top student, happy, no history of substance abuse. It doesn’t make sense. Against the wishes of her boss and the Metropolitan Police, Ingrid investigates. She soon finds out her hunch is right—this was a diabolically clever murder. And now she’s up against a killer with an IQ that’s off the charts. The deeper she digs, the deadlier the case gets. And when she uncovers a sinister group inside the university’s psychology department, Ingrid’s own life is on the line just as events from the past look like they’ll overwhelm her. Fresh Doubt is the first book in the Ingrid Skyberg thriller series. Fall in love with Ingrid as she learns to break the rules and become the kind of heroine that’s seen her dubbed ‘the female Jack Reacher’. Throughout the series, you’ll follow Ingrid as she hunts serial killers, goes undercover, exposes corruption and confronts her past. ★★★★★ A heroine to root for. ★★★★★ A cast of returning characters you’ll love spending time with. ★★★★★ Adversaries you’ll love to hate. ★★★★★ Eight books (and counting!) filled with action, adventure & thrills. ★★★★★ A series with over one thousand 5-star reviews. It all starts with Fresh Doubt, this twisty-turny thriller from an award-winning author. The Ingrid Skyberg series is perfect for fans of breath-holding action, unpredictable twists and unputdownable heroines.
Readers are typically 45+, both male and female, and are mostly in the US and UK
I'm looking to refresh this series as I feel the covers are looking dated. I want something that looks like a contemporary crime thriller. These books are set in modern day London and feature an athletic female FBI agent, thirties, with short blonde hair. The design needs to work at thumbnail size as well as in black and white (as this is how it will appear on some Kindles). If I receive a design I like, I intend to commission 8 more covers. I'd be particularly interested to see covers that look like Mary Stone, LT Vargus and TR Ragan books.
What to avoid
Women with long hair. Women looking like a victim. Guns. Anything sexy.
