Who Stole The Cake?
Mark T Pinto
Mark is 11 years old and he loves to read books with funny characters about silly capers and mysteries. He enjoys exploring nature, scavenger hunts, camping and cooking. And like most 11 year old boys, he loves playing video games! Now Mark is writing his own stories.
Who Stole the Cake, the first book in the exciting new series called The Neighborhood Mysteries, is a fun, light kids' mystery about a birthday cake that goes missing right in the middle of a surprise party!
This book is for kids aged 7 to 12 years old. The group of friends at the party are suburban boys around 8 or 9 years old including one younger girl who is like their little sister.
Book cover type
Please see the attached images. It just so happens that we came across a board game in the bookstore that is almost exactly what his book is about and it even has a cover image similar to what we are looking for. We love how they are looking at the empty plate with the missing cake using a flashlight, magnifying glass and a note pad. However, we'd like this scene brighter, not so dark (colors, facial expressions) while still keeping the mystery feeling. Also, the characters in the cover art will be younger in order to represent the children in the story, including the wacky Kid Detective. The other photos attached are some of the author's favorite books to give you a feel for the lightness/silliness of the writing style. Here is a description of each character: Mark, boy, age 8, black Poppy, girl, age 4, black Parker, boy, age 8, white rich so he wears rich, "cool kid" clothing like maybe a leather jacket or sunglasses; Wyatt, boy, age 8, white prankster/plays a lot of jokes, the detective, boy, age11, wearing all black- boots, pants, trench coat and hat pulled down to hide face/very mysterious; Sky, age 8, birthday boy, black. we also attached 2 other book covers from his favorite books so you can understand the vibe he likes
