Feral kitten Hattie is born into poverty in a cult that believes cats must shun all human contact, ruled by evil tomcat Scarab Razorclaw. When Hattie is banished for falling in love with a pedigree housecat, she struggles to survive and raise her kittens alone, but eventually creates and rules a vast colony of stray cats. On the way, she learns the meaning of true love with her childhood friend, Longpaw. In the end, she's able to take her revenge against Scarab, but at the expense of her freedom.

It's quite a dark children's book, with themes of religion, family betrayal, loss and grief but also the wonder of nature, fierce love and loyalty and survival. I want it to appeal to children, but also make it clear from the cover that this cat book is not all sweetness and light, and be quite mysterious. Must stand out when seen on screen as a small thumbnail.
