We write psychologically-minded books for children and adults.
What's your vision?
My company publishes self-help books for children and adults. I need a book cover designed for my current book which teaches children from 8-12 years old how to overcome negative thinking. Title of the book: How To Get Unstuck From The Negative Muck: A Kid’s Guide To Getting Rid of Negative Thinking. Author: Lake Sullivan, Ph.D. I want the design to communicate: -A child (or symbol of a child) facing a challenge about the way they are thinking about things. They could be thinking negatively about themselves, other people, or their world in general. -Although the main focus should be on negative thinking, it would be great if there was some symbol of hope reflected in the design. Some specific ideas and imagery: -I am open to having actual children on the cover or symbols of children. If you choose to create a child on the cover then I would like the child to be of an ambiguous race. So a child who appears biracial would be ideal or a child whose physical characteristics are a bit “all over the place” would work as well. -If you choose to create symbolic children, then the symbols need to reflect the age range I’m targeting (8-12 years old). So, animals are fine, but they shouldn’t be too “babyish.” -I like the idea of “negative muck” being represented by a thought bubble with scribbles in it. So one idea is to have a close up of a child (or symbol of a child) appearing negative and with a thought bubble of scribbles above his/her head. Perhaps the child is simply sitting at a desk with her head propped up by her hands with a negative muck thought bubble above her... This is just one idea, I am open to many other ideas of scenes as well. -I don’t want the scene to be too “busy.” I would prefer a big bold image that would be easily recognizable as a small thumbnail image of the book. I want children to be able to instantly recognize that the child (or symbol of a child) is thinking negative thoughts. -Bright, bold, contrasting colors would work best. Deliverables: -A book cover, spine, and back cover in the following formats: jpg, pdf, .ai, .eps -The book cover as a separate image in the following formats: jpg, pdf, .ai, .eps
<p style="margin-bottom: 0px; font-style: normal; font-size: 12px; line-height: normal; font-family: Helvetica; "><p style="margin-bottom: 0px; font-style: normal; font-size: 12px; line-height: normal; font-family: Helvetica; ">The size of the entire book (front & back covers, plus spine) should be 8” x 10”, with a 0.2” spine <p style="margin-bottom: 0px; font-style: normal; font-size: 12px; line-height: normal; font-family: Helvetica; ">The separate book cover image should be 8” x 10”
