The Whisper of a Saint
Richard Dietrich Maddox
Richard Dietrich Maddox grew up in the Midwest and graduated with honors from Princeton University. After graduation, he spent five years in Europe studying literature and preparing to teach meditation. He taught meditation full-time for two years before serving as the Vice President of Sales for seven successful high-tech startup companies. In 2005, he retired from the business world to concentrate on writing.
The book is about an American who is spiritually mentored by an Indian Yogic Master through visions, and is finally invited to India to join him for final instruction. The American travels across India searching for a Yogi whose name he does not know. He finds Him in the Himalayas, where many spiritual adventures ensue. Final Enlightenment is reached after a whisper by the Master into the student's ear.
Spiritual seekers, literary-fiction readers
Book cover type
The plot: an Indian Yogi contacts a young American boy in visions throughout the latter's life. When the boy is 50 years old, the Yogi invites him, again in vision, to come to India. The American goes, not knowing the Yogi's name or location. Travels over India before finding him in the Himalayas, standing on a spot outside a cave. Wondrous spiritual experiences involving yogic miracles, encounters with ancient rishis, visions of gods, etc. ensue. The American finally reaches Enlightenment after hearing something whispered in his ear by the Yogi. Himalayan scenery, sunlight as metaphor for Enlightenment, dramatic skies, etc. might be useful in the cover design.
What to avoid
The "Saint" needs to look like a Maharishi Mahesh Yogi or Ramana Maharshi, not like a religious saint, i.e. he wears a white dhoti, has a beard and long hair. His eyes are his most notable feature, as they shine like pieces of star.
