THE HOUSE ON THE MOUNTAIN
Rabbi Avraham ben Yaakov Greenbaum is an internationally-renowned Torah teacher and author of over 25 published books on Hasidism and Kabbalah and their practical development, spiritual growth and wellbeing, preventative healthcare, healing and other vital areas. Rabbi Greenbaum is the founder and director of the Jerusalem-based AZAMRA INSTITUTE dedicated to global outreach to people of all backgrounds. He runs the www.azamra.org website and gives regular online Torah classes.
The "mountain" symbolizes "raw nature", our God-given, natural environment. At the opposite extreme is the "house", a structure made entirely by man, albeit with materials derived from nature. In between the two stands the "field" - land or some other natural resource that man has to work and manipulate in order to produce his food and other needs. (GAP) In today's world, the "house" - symbolizing the man-made urban civilization in which we live - is seriously out of harmony with the wider natural environment, and our patterns of production and consumption are causing appalling damage to the environment; but the Torah teaches that this can be rectified and that mankind will attain a new and lasting harmony with nature, just as soon as we realize that the key lies in envisioning and constructing the Sacred House - the Temple of God in Jerusalem.
People of all ages and backgrounds who care about others and our environment, who realize that to make a world at peace and in harmony, requires an acknowledgement that we are all brothers and sisters and created by God.
