My Double Life
Hi, I'm Angela, a freelance writer and editor living in Edinburgh. I'm looking for a fun, professional, eyecatching book cover design to appeal to a rom-com audience.
My Double Life is a romantic comedy about an introverted librarian with a wild side. She decides to take on a side-gig as a life model to earn extra cash but keeps it a secret from her boyfriend. Deliverables: 1 x PDF paperback for Amazon KDP 1 x PDF paperback for Ingram Spark 1 x JPG for Amazon Kindle/Ebook I will provide PDF templates.
Females, 20 - 50? UK, EUR, US, CAN, AUS, NZ
Book cover type
Size: 8.5 x 5.5 Font styles: Font for lettering, not too swirly whirly like previous novel more contemporary, bold. White for lettering is ok but open as long as it stands out. Pastel shades for solid background: - First choice soft blue, - Second choice soft pink - Third choice soft purple Accent colours - black, white, green, yellow, pink are all ok. Imagery: Pretty librarian, she's sexy/elegant but not raunchy: (this is the clothing description from the novel) - White long-sleeved blouse - Black pencil skirt - Tan sheer stockings - Black heels - Long brown hair tied back in a bun - Black thick-rimmed oversized glasses (must have) - Mascara, and pink lipstick Her figure is reasonably curvy, not stick thin. In general: - Needs to be visually appealing to attract the rom-com market - Needs to feature the protagonist dressed as librarian holding a book in some way (eg standing up, lying down on a couch, putting book in a shelf - I'm open to ideas if it looks good) - If you can tie in the "double life" theme in some way that would be clever but I'm not too fussy - Needs to be eye-catching and not too cluttered, ie a plain background is best but one or two decorative features ok - Needs to look fun and inviting - Can have a few literary and artistic decorations for framing or background elements on front and also back cover eg books, pages, paint brush Order of Elements: - Title (I'm thinking that skewing the word Double so it’s at a slight angle would look good and maybe have it in a different colour? Again, open to ideas.) - Tagline underneath in small lower case. - Image (open to ideas on the pose, but would like to have her hold a book or reading a book in some way, protagonist not too small needs to be seen in thumbnail) - Author Name at bottom
What to avoid
Avoid photos, needs to be a vector graphic. Avoid putting two girls on front as it might look like twins, and it's not about twins. Cityscape of Edinburgh. Vivid pink
It all began with a design brief.
