Dreams and Shadows
Jeffrey Collyer was born in Perth, Australia. Following stints living in the US and Chile, he finally settled in England, where he now lives with his wife, four children, and two cats that constantly try to trip him down the stairs. Although his reading (and writing) tastes are somewhat eclectic, his first love is Fantasy, as it enables all sorts of subject matter to be explored in subtle ways.
He thought he’d be safe in a magical world. He was wrong. With little to live for, 18-year-old Michael is only too eager to enter a world where magic is common and where wonders are created with little more than thoughts. But it’s not home he finds there. Deadly beasts and hidden evils lurk around every corner, and they’re hunting him. And it’s not just the monsters who want him. Dragged from one people to another, Michael must discover the truth amongst lies if he is to escape a tyrannical leader who is after his very soul. Alone, wounded, and lost, he finally must make the biggest decision of his life: to allow himself to die, or to live. To prevent a genocide. To save the woman he loves. And most dangerously, to discover the truth of who he really is. Dreams and Shadows is the first book in the fantasy series, The Aylosian Chronicles. If you enjoy plot twists, inspiring wisdom literature, and stories both tragic and triumphant, this novel by Jeffrey Collyer will linger in your mind long after you have finished reading.
Fans of Lord of the Rings, Narnia, the Chronicles of Thomas Covenant. My reader base is primarily women over the age of 30.
Book cover type
I'm happy to provide some creative freedom to designers, but the following may help: 1. The book follows closely the story of the 18 year old male mc. In many ways he is alone in this book 2. The mc has two people of real significance who aid him in the end. The first is an 18 year old young woman. The second is a 4 ft high black humanoid creature with flaps for his ears, large blood-red eyes, and razor sharp teeth and claws. 3. The main antagonist for this book is a man in his mid-50s with dark hair and neat bears, all sprinkled with white. For most of the book, the mc isn't sure whether this man is a friend or enemy. 4. There are two different places of real significance in the book. The first is a large city. It is walled and runs alongside a large lake on its right, with mountains behind and to its left. The city rises quite sharply as it moves closer to the mountains, and on the lake side there are a series of waterfalls coming from under the city where there are numerous underground rivers. The waterfalls rise as the city rises getting nearer the mountains, and in the sunlight, the spray can create rainbows all along. There is a building with several tall spires closest the mountains at the back, and towards the left of the city there is a large building with a domed roof. The second scene is adjacent to a huge chasm 100 feet across. There are the remains of a bridge, tall pillars standing on either side, but nothing left in between. The far side has many domed buildings in ruins - this is a long abandoned city - with tall deciduous trees. There are mountains in the far left. 5. This is an epic fantasy book - the first in a series - and the cover must have that feel, including fonts. 6. An illustrated look to fit with the old-style epic fantasy I'm more interested in the *feel* of the cover rather than a particular scene, but hopefully the above will give some inspiration. (N.B. I don't mind if the cover does have a specific scene from above, but it doesn't have to) The second book in the series is already published and I would ideally like to work with the same designer to redo that cover also, plus the third book which I hope to be out next year.

This is my second project with Coverdungeonrabbit and I am just as happy as I was last time. I look forward to working with her again.
