duane.pye got their new book cover by running a design contest:
Design a Minimalist Novel Cover with Gravitas
Check out duane.pye's Book cover contest…
Harry is a produced playwright and has a background in writing and designing games.
This is a "Day After Tomorrow" science fiction novel exploring aliens and deeply hidden secrets, other dimensions and a covert war.
Male, educated, gamer, military, history buff.
Balance between negative and white space (in keeping with the theme of 'harmony'). Scary and mysterious and secretive and understated is the tone I'm looking for. The simple comp attached hints at a human skull or alien torso, I like the tension of the ambiguity there, the 'head' clipped. If not monochromatic, cool tones. Title font should convey gravitas. Concentric ripples would also be thematically consistent, and may be used to obscure or as title text treatment.
What to avoid
Cliche, overstated, lack of ambiguity or tension.

ID.zen was awesome to work with, and incorporated adjustments as requested in a very prompt and professional manner. I would happily work with them again, and am very pleased with the design I ended up with - it's exactly as I was looking for. :)
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
We think contests are a super fun way to get design.
