The Sushi Prophecies
August Hill is an adventure-hoarding bastard. Having crawled up into the mucky ranks of academia and business, August now exposes the characters and themes of a fragile and silly world through his fiction. His comedic explorations soar in this fresh series dedicated to the magic at play all around you and the people you love to hate. August has eaten and surfed all over the world, finding himself touched by strangers of all types, but not like that. Working at an infamous hotel in the nineties, he once delivered a toothbrush to Barry Manilow, who was ironing his underwear at midnight.
Sebastian, an idle artist barely escapes crippling social anxieties by managing a posh urban gardening center and its group of varied misfits. They flounder meaninglessly, manoeuvring the ethos of the city’s severe growing pains until Sebastian is targeted by some murky and unexpected group plotting to ‘free’ everybody with a mind-controlling plant. Battle lines are drawn as mediocre villains and awkward heroes climb up into the dumpster fire of ancient morality and creative revenge. Thrust into unsolicited leadership, Sebastian and his weirdos have six days to unwrap a messy family conspiracy before the city is lost and dread overtakes the entire west coast. Vancouver has become a disturbed, retched mess of murderous blue-bloods and lost hipster gardeners, sadistic baristas and immortal sushi masters. A drug-fed breeding ground of scoundrels in an orgy of tapa bars, yoga classes and sunset booze cruises. With freedom, you either find yourself, or you lose yourself.
North American Men and Women aged 19-54 who are into music, foodie culture, stand-up comedy, dark humor, indie films, arguing with their friends about pop culture. Authors they may like: Christopher Moore, Carl Hiaasen
Book cover type
This cover will be mysterious and playful, with simple but striking color/illustration. Unique but legible typeface. It will follow the design trends of this year, but will be classic, not cliché. Be creative with the conceptual visuals of hallucinogens/mind control, Japanese culture, sunny Vancouver, good and evil, magical forces. Items of interest: chopsticks, aloe, a BIC lighter, vinyl record, sailboat.

Invited to a 1-to-1 Project for more files after winning a contest. The files were completed much earlier than I expected. Very satisfied with the quality, promptness, and communication of this designer.
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
