Eco Bible: An Ecological Commentary on the Hebrew Bible
Rabbi Yonatan Neril and Rabbi Leo Dee
Yonatan Neril completed an M.A. and B.A. from Stanford University with a focus on global environmental issues, and received rabbinical ordination in Israel. He founded and directs The Interfaith Center for Sustainable Development (ICSD) and its Jewish Eco Seminars (JES) branch. Leo Dee received his B.A. from Cambridge University in Engineering and rabbinical ordination in Israel. He directs programs at ICSD and JES.
Eco Bible reveals how the Hebrew Bible and rabbinic commentaries relate deeply to creation care and stewardship, including preserving biodiversity and ensuring clean air, land, and water.
We intend this book to be bought and read by Christian readers as well as Jewish and secular ones. Most readers of the book will be Christian, since there are 2.2 billion Christians in the world. Readers will likely have an interest in religion, or an interest in ecology, or both.
Book cover type
We are designs with a nature photograph. The nature theme should come across through the book cover. It should be a photo of a tree, forest, leaf, and/or flowers. We also seek to communicate visually the connection between religion and ecology, spirituality and sustainability. We would like "the typography to be easily readable (if not huge), an accompanying image to be clear, and the synthesis between the two to appeal to a total stranger’s sense of visual order and logic." (based on a New York Times article) We would like the back cover to match the front cover in color. We do not want any religious imagery that pertains specifically to one religion, i.e. a cross or a Jewish star (star of David).
What to avoid
No graphics (i.e. we want the image to be a nature photograph, not a graphic).
It all began with a design brief.
A quick, interactive guide helped them understand their design style and captured exactly what they needed in their book cover.
Designers across the globe delivered design magic.
yneril collaborated with designers to refine their ideas
When design entries come in, you can rate them so designers know what you’re looking for in your logo design.
99designs has great collaboration tools so you can pinpoint and capture your ideas
And then… they selected a winner!
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
We think contests are a super fun way to get design.
