The Mantle got their new book cover by running a design contest:
Design covers for a books series (follow-up commission available)
Check out The Mantle's Book cover contest…
Critical Editions series - in this example, use the title "The Treatise of the Three Impostors"
Various - in this example, use "Anonymous"
There will be many different authors over the course of the series. No need to put the author info on the book.
The Critical Editions series revives forgotten, misunderstood, or not-well-known classic fiction and nonfiction texts. Each book comes with a new introduction that puts the book in context for a contemporary reader. Currently we have four books in this series, and it will continue to grow. We want a sophisticated design that can be used over and over. The winning designer may receive a recurring commission to update each edition of the series. Book cover type
You are creating a design that can be used over and over with variations to create a consistent look in our Critical Editions series. You can use graphics, colors, or photography. EACH book in this series will look the same, with slight variation for each new title. For example, changing the photo or color from title to title. The design should be sophisticated and timeless. We want people to recognize the cover from a distance, and for the cover to look fresh 10, 20, 30 years from now.
What to avoid
We do not want to look like other series. For example, do NOT mimic the likes of Penguin Classics, Oxford World Classics, etc. Please be different than https://global.oup.com/academic/content/series/o/oxford-worlds-classics-owc/?cc=us&lang=en& and http://www.penguinclassics.com/
Every design category has flexible pricing for all budgets. Book cover starts at $299.
It all began with a design brief.

Designers across the globe delivered design magic.
The Mantle collaborated with designers to refine their ideas
When design entries come in, you can rate them so designers know what you’re looking for in your logo design.
99designs has great collaboration tools so you can pinpoint and capture your ideas
And then… they selected a winner!
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
We think contests are a super fun way to get design.
