Pedro Barrento
I'm an author who writes Literary Fiction.
Design a new cover for a “New Age” faux religious hippie trippy book. The book is called "The Prince and the Singularity - A Circular Tale". The name of the author is "Pedro Barrento" and the author's name should feature in small letters.
I have uploaded some images I found on the net which I think are the sort of thing that might work well.
I also need a version with the title in Portuguese: "O Príncipe e a Singularidade - Um Conto Circular".
Printed book size is: 5.5" x 8.5" (13.97 x 21.59 cm)
I'll give exact spine measurements to the winner.
Please deliver editable high-res ".psd" and / or "ai" files with separate layers available. Please don't use any fonts that you are not ready or able to send me along with the files.
To get an idea about the book, I suggest reading the reviews at the Amazon USA site: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00B3B3QNS
I suggest the following ideas for the cover:
1- a professional looking rendition of the same concept as the present cover. It reflects a scene in the book where the world is controlled by a spiritual being from an apple tree (so no pine trees, no eucalyptus, etc).
Please note that most tree/world images on the net are depictions of Yggdrasil, the Tree of Life from Nordic Mythology and they tend to be dark and menacing, which is incompatible with the dreamy / New Age feeling of the book.
2) a cover with a Christian symbol (the cross?) a Buddhist symbol (a Buddha?) and an earthly symbol (a dollar sign?). It must not feel too cluttered – should be simple and thought provoking. You are free to use other symbols but they must be compatible with the book’s story.
3) a childish drawing, à la “The Little Prince” using any concepts compatible with the book.
4) feel free to surprise me with something totally different from the above referred suggestions (maybe something involving "E=MC2" and a religious symbol?).
Please note that the cover must never feature any symbols of regalia, like a crown a sceptre, etc. “The Prince” that is referred to in the title is a reference to the Buddha and is therefore only a man who is walking the Earth in search of knowledge. The Singularity is a mathemathical concept present in the Big Bang Theory and not the “technological singularity” concept referred to in Sci-Fi books.
The title of the book is therefore a somewhat Dadaist title, with two concepts that apparently clash.
If anyone wants to peruse the book to get ideas, send me a message and I'll send you a coupon for a free download.
This is the new blurb for the book:
The Prince and the Singularity – A Circular Tale is a faux religious book that advances a fictitious Creation Myth, leading the reader to think about religion in unusual terms.
It can be funny, controversial or both at the same time. It can be read as a heretical spoof on the Life of Christ or as a sweet and sensitive depiction of the ascension of a Bodhisattva - the choice is yours.
Things will sound very odd at times.
Why are there Two Commandments and not ten?
Why is Mary Magdalene so different from the real one?
But in the end it will all make sense and will do so in the most unexpected ways.
Whatever the reader brings with him will determine what he will get out of this story. Love it or hate it, this is not a book to attract indifference.
The Prince and the Singularity – A Circular Tale is the story of the Prince aka the Master aka Francis, who is more or less immortal and goes through the millennia fighting Desire and Rejection, the roots of all unhappiness and evil. He always fails until the moment he loses interest and decides to die, which he doesn’t. Instead he gets promoted.
