Maia Williamson

Maia is a university English teacher level in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. She is an avid traveller in her off time and has always preferred a backpack and bus ticket for all her adventures. She writes a travel blog in her spare time (http://travelmeans.ca) loves nature, culture and the unknown while travelling.

This book is a personal collection of stories of over almost twenty years of travel, mostly solo, always with a backpack. Each story focuses on a significant interaction or encounter the author had, which was not always positive but led to a positive impact on her life. While each story’s focus is on an encounter (sad, scary, humourous, inspirational) the place in which it occurs is the backdrop and very much an influence on the outcome of the story.

The People Out There is for anyone that loves travel, specifically anyone who appreciates the diversity of the human experience and our reaction to it in all of its different forms. This collection of travel stories will resonate with people who are open to the synchronicity of strangers and the significance of each encounter, good or bad. It's also for people who have been discouraged to travel, most notably women, those wanting to go solo, and those who want to shed the 9 to 5 life.

Paperback

I want it to be clean, modern, not too busy, but since the focus is on people and culture and travelling, perhaps something to reflect that. I like warm colours and hues (bright reds, yellows, oranges) but am also drawn to bright aqua and turquoise colours. If I think about the colours of my travels, I think Africa, South America, vibrant patterns, textiles, jewelry, pottery, markets, food, wine, sunshine, nature. I like things that 'pop' in colour over neutral tones.

I don't want anything too busy or a crazy font. I hate kid-style fonts or anything retro. I don't want soft, pastel colours especially pink. I don't want anything that says 'luxury' as I've never travelled that way and nobody in my book represents that lifestyle.
