TomDekker got their new book cover by running a design contest:
Design a awesome cover for a non-fiction book about changing carreers
Check out TomDekker's Book cover contest…
I'm Tom Dekker. After switching carreers succesfully myself I became curious about the recurring obstacles, challenges and pitfalls people experience.
SWITCH is a book about how to change carreers succesfully, knowing what you really want and discovering new opportunities for yourself in the job market. After interviewing dozens of succesfull switchers and carreercoaches I realized there was a recurring pattern underlying a switch. Yes, there is a blueprint for taking the leap. Let me tell you what it is in this book.
Young professionals with a bachelor or masters degree (ages 25-40) who are considering switching carreers after their first or second serious/full-time job in a knowledge economy/jobmarket. They're either burned-out, unfulfilled or not challenged at work and know in the back of their mind there is more possible for them. They're asking themselves the question: what's next?
Book cover type
GOAL: I'm looking for a professional design for a bookcover about switching carreers that communicates the idea of professional growth and development (non-fiction). STYLE: • modern & smooth • clean & cheerfull • sophisticated & elegant • freedom & vitality INSIDE: I'm using Adobe Caslon for the main body text and Lato Heavy for titles and headers (but please use your own fonts). FORMAT A5 (148mm x 210mm) BACKGROUND INFO: In essence the book is about growing as a professional and taking the next step in your development. Often there is a dilemma or conflict going on in the mind of the young professional: should I stay or should I go? And if I decide to go, what then? It's a book about growth, change, resistance to change, taking control, getting to know your own motivations and qualities, taking deliberate action and discovering new opportunities for yourself in a knowlegde economy. The end goal is having a more fulfilled and challenging carreer that suits your passions and core-strenghts. I'm looking forward to your design! Thanks! - Tom P.S. The winner also gets a free copy of the book. Just in case you, or someone you know is considering changing carreers :-) Or just to actually hold your design in your hands and look at it.
