I'm looking to have designed a book cover for the first book in an urban fantasy series. I'd like to stick with the same artist to illustrate the entire series, so this first illustration is very important.
The story takes place in contemporary Baltimore and mentions several landmarks: Enoch Pratt Library, the Pagoda, the Inner Harbor, Holy Rosary Church, etc. So the cover might make use of these. For the first book in the series a "general" Baltimore feel may be all that's necessary, but I'm open to interpretation.
The main character is a white woman, with wavy/curly auburn hair. She uses a crystal pendulum to find information. The pendulum might work as a cover device, more with the character than stand alone, I think. Also: she wears a long chain with several religious medals (http://www.thecatholicshop.com/reli…edals.html) hanging from it tucked into her shirt, but it might be visible for the cover. She has to put up with demons and gargoyles-and while we're not opposed to those on the cover, maybe a "dark feel" would be better than actually seeing the demons. But again, I want to see what you come up with.
This character wrestles with her faith throughout the book, so religious symbolism might work on the cover, too. However, the book isn't religious in nature, so we don't want it to appeal to a crowd looking for religious content.
Cover should be branded as part of a series.
- need front, back and spine for print cover. Front will be used for electronic addition. Wrap around would be perfect, but not necessary.
- need at least 300 dpi files for print cover, preferably delivered as editable PSDs, since cover copy is not set in stone.
- 1/4 in margins plus additional 1/8 in bleeds
- 6 x 9 inches
- Spine: .75 inches, please leave margin of .0625 margin on all sides of spine.
- company logo should be on spine - attached file is rather large, let me know if you need something smaller
Leave room for bar code (2.0 x 1.2 inches set 1/4 inch to the left of the spine and above bottom margin.)
Title: Stoned in Charm City
Series: Charm City Darkness
Author: Kelly A. Harmon
"Award Winning Author" should appear somewhere next to the author name.
Log line: Homeless is nothing compared to an eternity in Hell
Important: Both the title and author's name must be readable in thumbnail versions.
Also, on the back cover, need the text:
Pole to Pole Publishing
Ebook Edition Available
I would prefer to work with original art, rather than stock, but I'm open: send me links to the stock art so I can see what additional costs will be for me.
Also: please stick to standard or free fonts so I won't need to license them.
