I'm looking for an original cover design for an urban fantasy novel to be published on Amazon KDP and Createspace,, so cover will be required in both formats. The print book will be 5.25" x 8" and 480 pages, spine width of 1.2". Image must be flattened, RGB color, and at least 300 dpi. Info on physical requirements is below. I'd like the description on the back, and room should be left for a Barcode.
Title: Silver and Bone
Author: Claudia Cain
The book is quite dark and mature, so I'd like the cover to reflect that. I'm looking for something coloured in blacks, whites, greys, reds, that will stick out from other books and look good in all formats. I'm looking for creepy, elegant and original. The story has paranormal and thriller aspects, is set in San Francisco, and is fairly heavy on death and murder. One of the central objects is a silver stake, like for vampires. I prefer the author name near the bottom. I like art styles like Joey Hi-fi, but also simpler ideas, like Maggie Stiefvater's Shiver or Sean Wilsey's Oh the Glory of it All, shown below. I'm open to seeing ideas.
Not looking for:
I am not particularly interested in anything with a person on the front. Preferably no stock images, and no unprofessional fonts.
Mainly, I'm looking for something that will stick out from your typical YA books. Otherwise I'm open to ideas and questions, but live in New Zealand, so bear that in mind if I don't respond immediately. If the winning designer chooses they will be recognized in the book with no royalties given, and I will be interested in working with them for the two following books.
Jennifer Jones is trying to be a better person.
It's not easy. She has a lot to make up for, considering that she's an immortal blood-sucker with a history of serial killing. But at least she probably can't get worse.
And for the last seventy years, things have been going well. She's got a job, friends she cares about, a steady relationship, and she hasn't killed a single human.
But something dark is on the horizon. A body appears in an alley, bringing up unsettling memories. A Necromancer warns of an approaching menace. And as more and more bodies begin to appear, repeating a very familiar pattern, Jennifer finds herself being framed for murder.
Someone is out for revenge, and they're willing to kill to get it.
You might be able to ignore your past, but you can't outrun it, and Jennifer's has just caught up to her.
