I am an author, speaker, university professor, and lawyer who helps college students define and achieve their total college success.
What's your vision?
I need 1 nonfiction book cover designed. There is a potential for more books to be released by my company, and I would like to have consistent cover design. On the front cover I need the main title, "The U Solution" in the largest font. The author name: Joshua D. Sheffer, should be near the bottom of the cover. The subtitle: College Success from Classroom to Dorm Room-and Everywhere In-Between, must also be on the front cover. This book will come two versions, paperback 5.5 x 8.5 (Ingram publishing specs) and hardcover case laminate (Ingram publishing specs) their websites have the correct dimensions, bleed, etc. I will need front and back covers, and would like the design to flow from one to the other. The back cover will have text. I can supply the text when I decide on the final cover. The cover must also include the following text: Foreword by Kary Oberbrunner Author of Day Job to Dream Job, The Deeper Path, and Your Secret Name NOTE: I recognize that you're the professional, PLEASE feel free to use complete creativity. Surprise me. You may be thinking something I am not. Here is a CONFIDENTIAL description of the book: Premise: Going away to college is a huge step; one students can never be completely prepared for. Author, attorney, and professor Joshua D. Sheffer highlights several areas where most students are not ready -- including some they don't even know they need to be ready for. Discover tools and insights to help you do more than just get by. Discover how to level up and define and achieve your total success. The book starts with an introduction titled: Orientation. This portion explains what the book is (and what it isn't), how to use it, and why students should listen to Joshua for guidance on college success. Part 1: Gen. Ed. - Prerequisites The book opens with a section on some of the "big ideas" that students going away to college need to think about. This includes thinking through what college means to them and how to define success at college, the impact of choices, and the most important key to success: confidence and being true to yourself. Part 2: B.A. - Basic Academics Part 2 covers several areas necessary to master academic success. Too many students think that what worked in high school will automatically work in college, and fail to realize that when they go away to school they won't have the same amount of support they had at high school. Beyond just telling students what they need to do, this part gives them the "why" behind the action and provides tips, tools, and strategies around which students can form their own system for academic success. Part 3: B.S. - Being Successful This part moves from academic success to helping students achieve success in other areas of college life, including making friends and socializing. Most importantly, Part 3 gives students awareness of certain dangers they may not have even known to expect, including hazing and sexual assault. But Joshua does not stop at raising awareness, or even at helping students protect themselves from these potential dangers. The book provides students with tools to be part of the solution to campus violence. The book ends with an Outro called "Commencement," which summarizes some of the big ideas presented; impressing on students the need to define their own success, that college provides and enormous opportunity for growth, and that they have what it takes to succeed.
I want you to have creative freedom with the design. I'd like it to look clean and professional without looking boring or "textbook-y". I would like my company, U Ready, LLC's logo (attached in scalable vector format) to be somewhere on the front or back cover (or large on the front and small on the back if that works with your design). I have also attached AAE logos to be used for the back cover (Author Academy Elite) and spine (AAE). If people or buildings are included on the cover, it must be done in a way that will not feel dated after a few years. I have attached some book covers that you can use as inspiration (but not to limit your design). These are covers for educational books that I see as clean without looking to much like a textbook. I would also like to avoid "playful" fonts like comic sans or the like. For the "Foreword by..." Please change it to: Foreword by Kary Oberbrunner Author of Elixir Project and Day Job to Dream Job I have attached a PDF and .docx file with the text for the back cover. To the left of the italicized text talking about me, I would like an author photo, I will be uploading it tomorrow, when I get the file from my photographer (if you have specifications for the file type you need, please let me know). The endorsement at the top of the back-cover text file should stand out from the rest of the text, and the author section should be different from the text about the book, too. Also: please make sure that the UReady Logo is at least on the back cover (although I also like it on the front and spine), and make sure the AAE logos are on the spine and back cover in a way that works with your design. Finally, make sure there's room for the barcode.
