I am an author, coach, and speaker and work with various organizations and groups on leadership and stress management. I also work with women, especially in faith communities, on finding their purpose and facing 21st century challenges.
What's your vision?
I need one non-fiction cover designed. On the front of cover I want Un·de·terred at the top in larger font and in dictionary style. I want (not discouraged or dissuaded) right underneath it in smaller font because it is the definition. The subtitle, Embracing Our Purpose, Facing Our Challenges lower part of cover and underneath it in much smaller font - A book for women. Though this is what I envision, I am open to suggestions on where to place title and subtitle. The book cover will come in 2 versions: paperback 5.5 x 8.5 inches (Create Space specs) and hardcover 5.5 x 8.5 inches (Ingram publishing specs). Their websites have the correct dimensions, bleeds, etc. . . Here is a confidential description of my book to give you a better understanding of the content. Un·de·terred addresses the role of women from a biblical perspective. In the first part, I encourage women to embrace who they are based on how God created them—as His image bearers. Weaving in the latest neuroscience, I demonstrate women have been uniquely designed to accomplish God’s calling. The second section of the book focuses on six common, self-limiting challenges that can keep women from living up to their full potential as God’s image bearers. • Over thinking • Lack of self-confidence • Relational aggression • Unforgiveness, • Impatience with waiting • Searching for happiness instead of joy I address these challenges from a biological, sociological, and spiritual perspective and include strategies women can use to deal with them. Through out the book, I share experiences I have had working with women throughout the world. Each chapter concludes with a “Think Through & Live It Out” section.
I am open to creative suggestions for a design. I have uploaded some designs and book covers to give you an idea of the type of visuals I like. (These are not to be used I just uploaded as example for you.) If stock photos are used it’s best that they are free or an inexpensive one time fee. This is a book for women, but I do not want it to be frilly or fussy, nor do I want it to look hard and cold. I want a bright and clear cover that gives a sense of strength, purpose, and warmth. I seem to be drawn to a simple design with white background, black lettering, and then a pop of color like red. The back cover will have text. I will supply text once I get to finalists. Also the back cover and spine could bleed over from the front cover…to create the feel of one continuous image on front and back. NOTE: Though I have said what I think I want, feel free to use some creativity too. You might be thinking something that I am not. The AAE logos downloaded below are used for the back cover (Author Academy Elite) and spine (AAE). ------- Back Cover Copy You’ll never know WHO you are until you first understand WHOSE you are. (This sentence should be bold and centered) Have you found your purpose? Do you think too little of yourself and God’s destiny for your life? Are you sidelined by self-limiting beliefs? Until you understand who you were created to be, you’ll struggle with dissatisfaction and discouragement. Living an un·de·terred life is not only a possibility; it’s also a reality for every woman who understands and embodies her role as an image-bearer. Beginning with the creation story, Un·de·terred explores our true identity. Weaving in the latest neuroscience, author, Vicki Kloosterhouse showcases how God has designed every woman to fulfill her divine calling. Integrating her own story as a backdrop, as well as stories from women around the world, Vicki identifies six self-limiting setbacks that threaten us from understanding and embracing our true purpose: • Over thinking • Lack of self-confidence • Relational aggression • Unforgiveness • Impatience with waiting • Searching for happiness instead of joy By unpacking the biological and cultural factors, which shape these setbacks, Vicki equips readers with practical strategies to overcome these challenges. We don’t need to settle for being women, uncertain about our identity. We can be un·de·terred and live lives of purpose and potential. --------- Vicki Kloosterhouse has spoken internationally on topics of leadership, stress management, and women’s issues. She earned a PhD in Family and Child Ecology with an emphasis on psychosocial health. She is a certified John Maxwell coach, speaker, and trainer. I was absolutely thrilled with Estella's work. She is always quick to respond to all of the concerns and questions that I had. I did not give her much to go on as far as ideas but what I did give her absolutely exceeded every expectation that I had. I would highly recommend her!
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
