Book cover (front, back & spine) for a men's health book titled: Prostate Recovery MAP - Men's Action Plan.
Men don't like to be told what to do, but they generally quite like maps. Maps are for finding your own way, taking charge as it were. This book contains specific information to help you find your way to recovery following prostate surgery for cancer. Specifically to overcome the two major side effects: incontinence and impotence or erectile dysfunction. While this is a physical recovery program it also addresses the psychological and relationship issues in general. This book is short (narrow spine, probably around 8mm) and contains links to videos on YouTube to further explain and illustrate the program components and exercises.
The e-book version (already published) has a cover photo of the world's tallest building at night in Dubai (The Burj Khalifa). Although the way it is cropped makes recognition difficult. I am looking for a better idea for the printed version. Something that men relate to and prompts them to pick it up even in an airport bookshop, with no barriers, shame or embarrassment associated with bringing the book to a female (or male?) sales attendant.
As the book is about taking control, it should convey a strong, positive feel. Could it include a map? Sure, but not necessarily.
The title is locked in. How it is presented remains flexible in terms of fonts, colors, layout, etc.
This book will be read by men but may well be purchased by their female partners (women are the major purchasers of all books), so it needs cross-gender appeal on the cover.
Publisher logo and two photos of the author are attached. As is a review copy of the content - it may help you get the tone of the communication (bloke speak) to match with the cover: serious material with a wry presentation angle.
E-book information and 'cover design' are available at http://www.craigallingham.com. There are some testimonial comments which may be useful for the cover. As usual, the front cover is to provoke curiosity and interest, sufficient to pick it up and read the back cover. Precise words for the back cover sell are not yet completed (suggestions welcome, but graphics is your bag), however a layout frame into which I can plug words would be great. Remember the lower area must include the barcode and publisher logo. The spine must also include title, author and publisher logo.
Rip into it.
