We have a website, http://www.mcmillanrunning.com, that serves as a resource for runners across the world. It features the McMillan Running Calculator, where users type in their distance and time for a race and it spits out proper training paces and more. From the site we also sell custom training programs and personal coaching for runners of all ages and abilities. Greg McMillan, our owner/founder and the author of this book, is featured prominently on the site and is considered one of the better coaches in the United States.
What inspires you and how do you envision the design for your business?
We want to convey a professional but inviting feel. We typically like clean, zen-like, uncluttered design. We also want to create that Greg is an expert. He's coached everyone from beginning runners to Olympic athletes and that gives him a lot of credibility. We want that credibility to live on the cover so that the reader feels he/she will become a better runner by reading this book. Many running books have covers that are very simple. Usually it's a picture of a runner and the title in block letters. We are not opposed to a picture of a runner but we want to think outside the box. That's where your creativity can certainly come into play. The title is called YOU (Only Faster): Training Plans to help you Train Smarter and Run Faster. We want people to know that if they read this book they are going to become better runners. Finally, we tend to prefer bold, bright colors in our artwork.
We do expect to sell this book at expos with thousands of people walking by all day long. To that end we'd love to blow up to cover on a big foam board poster to attract attention. So again, big and bold is probably good. Also, the book will be sold primarily on our website so we need a cover that will be eye-catching as a thumbnail.
