We provide high impact Science experiences for students, and we provide trainings and professional development for teachers wanting to use those experiences to improve their own Science instruction. We get dirty, we make noise, we study guts, and stinky things don't scare us.
What's your vision?
I need a book cover designed for The Science Club Handbook. The design will be front, spine, and cover. I will need a 3D version for my website to show the cover. The book is written for brave teachers who are interested in building a Science Club at their campus, and in making Science more exciting for students. The book cover should grab attention quickly. Tactical / Vintage Indiana Jones journal / guidebook / treasure map themes encompass what I'd like teachers to feel when they pick it up. I want them to feel like they could grab this book out of the rubble, dodge the spears and arrows, and sprint into a bored classroom, and blow the kid's minds with amazing Science learning. The title is "The Science Club Handbook". I'd like title and author's name (Alan Small) noted front, back, and spine. Science equipment or specimen graphics are fine to use, but not required. Beakers, blue crab, crawfish, volcanoes, slime, catapults rockets, messy students, beetles, earthworms, dissection tools and botany are all in the book, and are available to reference. I'm not limited to only these things so if you have another thought, I'm interested. Your design might not rely on these elements, and that is fine. The back cover should have the following copy/message: The Science Club Handbook is a step-by-step guide for teachers who want to help kids enjoy Science WITHOUT adding to an already full work load. If you're ready to rediscover the joy (and value) of teaching Science without turning in more lesson plans, sitting in another meeting, or checking "the data" again, then this guide is for you! The strategies and techniques in The Science Club Handbook form a complete blueprint to help you IMMEDIATELY create a Science Club that brings fulfillment back to the classroom for both teachers and students. This book is relevant for: -Beginning teachers working hard to make a positive impact for their students -Veteran teachers searching for ways to reignite and reclaim passions for Science -Volunteers looking for an antidote to standardized testing -Administrators hunting for strategies to positively influence student achievement and engagement -Informal Science Educators who need a framework to present the treasures within their area of expertise If you're ready to enjoy Science again, it's time to join the Club! (in the bulleted list, the words "beginning teachers", "veteran teachers", "volunteers", "administrators", and "informal science educators" need to be emphasized/bolded to stand out) Also, it needs a short Bio for Alan Small: Alan Small is a husband, dad, Texan, STEM enthusiast, Science Club Activist, dissection aficionado, author, entrepreneur, rocketeer, learner, and teacher. Connect with him on Twitter: @TheFort_FW The design will be a single PDF that includes the back cover, spine, and front cover as one image. Here are the sizing requirements from the website: You can submit your cover on any size page as long as the printable area is: •Measured exactly to your book's trim size, spine width, and .125" bleed •Centered horizontally and vertically Minimum Cover Width: Bleed + Back Cover Trim Size + Spine Width + Front Cover Trim Size + Bleed My spine width will be .3378" (150 pages) The size will be 5.5x8.5 and it will be printed through Amazon's CreateSpace. Also, the design will need to be useful as a small/thumbnail for purchase on Kindle. To align with that format, the title of the book (The Science Club Handbook) will need to be very noticeable. Of those words, the words "Science Club" need to be the most noticeable because they are the theme of the book.
I write, I don't design. You do you within the parameters above. This is my first time assembling a project like this, so if you think my limited vision or experience is holding back what could be an awesome design, I'm open to suggested improvements. Minor modifications to the included text can be made to conform to a good design, but please alert me to changes made to the text so that I can review them.
