Entertainment & The Arts
I write comedy novels, predominantly satire, that are geared toward males and females ages 25-34.
What's your vision?
I'm looking for the first ebook cover in a series of 10-15 comedy ebooks. It must work for Amazon, B&N, Kobo & iTunes. I want it to be something simple and eye-catching that speaks to the comedy genre and can be altered slightly for each new book while maintaining a clear visual brand across the series. I imagine this will be an illustration rather than a photograph, but I'm open to photographs as long as they fit within the genre. I want a particular object/character to be featured on the cover of each book, so for this project, I would like either a) a wild hog sitting in the middle of an empty road, b) a grackle sitting on the top of a wooden post looking stunned or c) the immediate aftermath of an exploded grackle on a playground, (feathers in a heap or something of that variety). I don't have a strong idea of what these might look like, so I'm willing to work with designers on it if I see a spark I like. **Update: After getting some of the designs in, the hog idea mentioned above is hitting closer to what I had in mind than the grackle one, so please focus on that one, as it's likely the one I'll be picking a design from.** The series is set in West Texas, so if you want to use that as inspiration, feel free, but I'm definitely not looking for anything over-the-top cowboy when it comes to fonts or style. I don't want people mistaking this for a western, basically. As the title below hints, this satirizes religion (lovingly), so slight nods at that could be awesome, but I don't want any outright religious symbols on it. The cover should also include: Series title: Jessica Christ Book title: The Beginning Author name: H. Claire Taylor **Update: The series title should read "Jessica Christ, Book 1" or have the design potential to be changed to that fairly easily**
The expectation is that the designer of this book would be hired to design the entire series, so entrants should be willing to work on 10-15 similar covers for the series over the course of the next two years. Below are a few examples that I like, particularly the solid background color, one character or object in focus, and unique, playful fonts. **Update: Please note the picture below of what a wild feral hog in west Texas looks like. It needs to look more like that than a warthog. **
