The project is a 60-page sex education brochure or small book for teenage girls in the form of a fictional novel. It is written in German and is titled: "Das erste Mal.“ Subtitle: "Paulina erzählt." [In English: The First Time. Pauline Tells Her Story.] The author is Karin Linnander, a psychologist specialized in youth sexuality.
Pauline, a 16-year-old girl, tells the story of her “first time,” – her first sexual encounter in the form of her diary, and through her girlfriends we hear different stories of positive and negative sexual experiences. At the heart of Pauline’s story is her encounter with Moritz, a 16-year-old boy whom she meets during summer holidays on an island. Moritz is a volunteer at a bird sanctuary and their first sensual encounter occurs in the dunes at the beach.
The intent of the book is to give girls (and boys) knowledge that helps them prepare for their “first time,” so that it becomes a positive and intimate (with themselves and the boy) experience. The characters are everyday, unspectacular youths – not glamorous or especially handsome girls and boys.
Target group: The book will be bought by parents, especially mothers or aunts to give to their 13- to 15-year old daughters. The book will also be placed in social youth institutions and doctors’ offices.
What is needed is a cover (front and back) of the booklet. The back cover will consist of a text, which can be found below. The cover should be so attractive to young girls that they wish to read it. But it should not be overly sweet or romantic. And it should not awaken direct “erotic” associations or be overtly sexual in any way. Keep in mind that young girls are shy and full of shame. It should not depict any identifiable face, so as not to limit one’s imagination of what Pauline or Moritz may look like. Perhaps a picture or drawing of a young girl, with a boyfriend, with a background of dunes or the beach or birds… But I am open to any other inspirations, too.
Here is the text for the back cover:
