michaelcongdon got their new book cover by running a design contest:
a childlike picture of a train sinking in the ocean diametrically opposed to adult cursive

It is Best to Die in Your Sleep
I loathe using the 3rd person to talk about myself so this comes in 1st person. I am a good person, trust me. I have been "seriously" writing since I was 15 – but that was crap poetry that required me trying to see what I could rhyme with "love." I worked in the food industry for 31 years. I finally broke free from that and am now a barber. I have a soup cookbook already published. The title comes from a one-paragraph story I wrote when I was 9.
It is Best to Die in Your Sleep is a collection of humorous, self-deprecating personal essays, fictional autobiography, short stories, and food recipes. The book is dry dark and arch – leaning to the absurd. The book contains a little bit of everything - a collage about a clinically-depressive, gay man's life.
20 - 60-year-olds, any gender, global, written with the outlook of a gay male in his 40's. People who are not offended by politically incorrect humor, and sexually-graphic detail, or language would enjoy it. The audience that would NOT enjoy reading this is "woke", easily triggered, deeply religious, and grandmothers.
Book cover type
Don’t know yet
book is 6"x9". I want the font to be tasteful and adult, but the illustration, childlike. Title should be much larger than author name. The font for the title I would like cursive, calligraphic, delicate tasteful with shadow subtle. Font for author name should be something like Copperplate, but not actually Copperplate. I want the image to bleed out to the edge, no framing.
What to avoid
NO pastels, no childlike or hand written style fonts. either the original childlike artwork from the story or an adult type interpretation. (but a train has to be sinking)
It all began with a design brief.

Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
