Title: From Dream to Delivery™
Author: Don Daglow
Subtitle: How to Do Work You Love, Love What You Do, and Succeed at Doing it
Overview: There will be two versions of this cover: One is a 6x9 paperback, standard non-fiction. The second is a workbook that goes with the main book. The workbook will be 8x10 and use the same front cover design with a “WORKBOOK” violator integrated into the design and/or title.
Topic: The book is non-fiction and covers how to plan and launch a big “Dream Project”, such as a new company, a big initiative inside an existing company, a part-time business, a new non-profit etc. The “Dream” is the idea that the reader wants to bring to life, and the “Delivery” is actually completing, shipping or starting up that Dream Project.
What Makes it Different: The book is broken up into eight general topics. The reader begins each topic by answering a series of questions about their Dream Project, their personal passions, their background etc. Only after the reader has had the chance to write down their initial thoughts and feelings do I then start teaching about the topic, and I do so in the context of “If you answered x, then you need to learn how to do y,” etc. The book started out as a series of presentations I did where audience members really enjoyed starting the process of learning how to do these things by writing down the things that excited them about the project, and I’m trying to recreate that same feeling for readers.
One Cover Concept (and I’m very open to other suggestions): To symbolize the idea of turning a dream into reality, a man and woman are standing at the edge of a cliff looking out over a wide canyon. The other side could be a city, an unspoiled wilderness, or something else very desirable. In front of the two people is a bridge where the first 25% has already been built, the next 25% is gradually more and more amorphous, the next 25% is rendered as a blueprint and the last 25% is just a rough sketch. The idea is that the two people have a plan that is partly thought through, and that with the help of the book they can see how they’ll be able to complete it.
