Season of Darkness
John M Caylor
Back of the book blurb: Though darkness still reigns supreme across the land, the friends set out on the first steps of their quest. Old allies and new friends join the struggle to drive out the darkness that rules their world as they cross the width of the empire in their search for hope. Their path leads them far across the realm and brings them face to face with one of the many aspects of evil that stalks them. Each member of the band will face challenges and suffer pain, injury and loss along the way, challenging their inner strength and determination. Will their struggles lead to the restoration of the former captives' magic? Will they find a way to free their other friends? Can they even survive to see tomorrow? Will Kayla find the limits of her power? Will their greatest enemy finally take notice of them and come for them himself? Only time will tell as they face a world of tomorrows full of questions and danger but also filled with the promise of hope. Are you strong enough to survive the coming storm? Will you answer the call for the Uprising? More information: Ok, so that's the back of the book blurb above, but what is the book really about? In general this is a sword & sorcery fantasy book where evil has already won the day and gone home for a cold one. A young woman, around 15, evades a life of slavery by going on the run. While in the wilderness she begins to experiment with her budding magical talent. She is befriended by a pair of dwarves and a magical construct while attempting to free ancient heroes held in stasis. Meanwhile the forces of darkness move across the land. In general this is how book one starts and this, book 2, is a continuation of that story. Our heroine is now 17 so a bit more mature but no other major differences.
Teens to adults interested in sword & sorcery style fantasy. In general the genre is predominately favored by male readers, but the book has a strong young female lead and thus far it has resonated well with the women who have given their feedback.
Book cover type
Our heroine is a 17 yo. woman with shoulder length blonde hair wearing a cloak with a relatively plain white or grey smock under it. She is appx 5'3" and weighs around 90 lbs. She is not overly well endowed so though we need her to clearly be female there is no need to overdo things. She is sexy and cute with a slightly rounded face and blue eyes. Sort of the girl next door type. If you'd like to do an upper torso shot so we can pull in fairly close to her that would be great. The background can be fairly simple either forest, or a night sky or even maybe some ancient ruins. These are just the ideas I’ve had, please understand that what I’m really hoping for is that you, the artist, get inspired by my ideas and come up with something incredible. If this works for your imagination then great, if not please feel free to adlib. You can find book one, Awakening available on Amazon.com where you can read the first several chapters for free if you’d like to kind of get a feel for her. Once we get this book cover done I’d like to redo the first book cover with the same artist so that I get a consistent feel and book 3 of the 5 book series is near completion so perhaps we can do the entire series together if things work out well.
What to avoid
I'm not a big fan of stock images so please avoid them. Truly what I'm looking for is for you to show your talent off. I have 2 other series underway and I'd like nothing more than to find a superior artist with whom I can develop a relationship that is good for your career and mine.

And then… they selected a winner!
This designer is excellent. I've completed 2 projects with him and I plan to continue to work with him on my next project. I'm fairly certain that he has ESP as he could clearly see the pictures that were in my mind. Honestly he is responsive, respectful and just downright amazing! In my experience you can't go wrong by trusting him with your project!
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
We think contests are a super fun way to get design.
