I write and speak about sex, gender, subcultures, and media. I specialize in BDSM.
What's your vision?
This cover is for an ebook that will be available on most major bookselling sites. The title will be BDSM AND CULTURE: FIFTY SHADES OF STEREOTYPE and the author is Clarisse Thorn. This book is the first of a series called "sex+++" -- all the books in the series will be smart / savvy / friendly books about sex and culture. The sex+++ branding will be on all these book covers. Here's the book summary: We all know what a dominatrix is, and we all know what Fifty Shades Of Grey is about. Or at least ... we think we know? BDSM is increasingly accepted as an alternative sexual orientation. But BDSM is still surrounded by stigma, scandal, and occasional legal action. This book will teach more about the history, culture, and philosophy of this subculture. This should look like a book about BDSM, but I want the cover to have a CRITICAL YET FUN feeling. So feel free to use imagery like boots and corsets and whips and handcuffs, but maybe also include eyeglasses or pictures of people reading books? Maybe you could use a picture of someone in BDSM gear raising her eyebrow over her glasses while reading a book?! Or a BDSM couple that are snuggled up together reading a book?!! Your imagination is crucial for this! I am open to the idea of a cover that uses photos ... OR a cover that uses other kinds of images, as long as they can appeal to a general audience. It should include the sex+++ logo, so I have attached two versions of the sex+++ logo. Here are some Amazon links that show covers from similar books, just so you have an idea of what's already out there. But for my book, I want something that that looks more awesome / cool / fun, with cleaner design. And again, this cover must have a critical media feeling. http://www.amazon.com/Playing-Well-Others-Discovering-Communities/dp/0937609587/ http://www.amazon.com/BDSM-Naked-Truth-Charley-Ferrer/dp/0977006344/ http://www.amazon.com/Playing-Edge-Sadomasochism-Risk-Intimacy/dp/0253222850/ http://www.amazon.com/Different-Loving-Sexual-Dominance-Submission/dp/0679769560/ http://www.amazon.com/The-Ultimate-Guide-Kink-Erotic/dp/157344779X/ http://www.amazon.com/Techniques-Pleasure-BDSM-Circuits-Sexuality/dp/0822351595/ ********* SUMMARY: -- The book is about BDSM and culture -- The title is "BDSM and Culture" and the author is Clarisse Thorn -- The cover should include the sex+++ logo -- THEMES: * smart, critical, intellectual * savvy * friendly, human, fun -- This should look like a book about BDSM, but I want the cover to have a CRITICAL feeling. So feel free to use imagery like boots, corsets, whips, whatever -- but it should also look like this book will make people THINK and be INTELLECTUAL. -- Ebook will be available on all major bookselling sites, so it should meet their requirements: Size 1,600 pixels x 2,560 pixels. The color palette should be RGB. Format should be JPEG or JPG. Also, remember that ebook covers must look good when they reduce in size to a thumbnail. It should still look good when it's small!
