SusansArt took all my feedback and worked hard over many iterations to zero in on a design that worked. She has a professional attitude, and strong creative vision.
How dianeRz started their book cover journey
Murphy's Miracle - One Dog's Wild Journey
This is a middle grade (8 to 12 years old) that is a fictional story about a lost dog, based on a true story. Murphy, a 5 year old golden retriever, was lost in the Tahoe National Forest for almost 2 years. She was finally reunited with her family.
Children 8 to 12 years old - maybe a little older, too.
Book cover type
Lightning Source / IngramSpark
PLEASE use this design as a guide. It has not been published. This is the design started by another designer but she was unable to finish it. This is an actual photo of the dog, which I really want to use. I really like this design.
What colors do you want to see in your design?
I've used CreateSpace in the past, and I'll probably use IngramSpark this time. I'm not sure what the differences in the cover design would be due to this difference. The book will be 5x8 inches, and about 250 pages. I was working with a designer who began a design, which I've included in the zip file. I really like it, so I'd like to stay with this idea; however, I'm open to other ideas, too. I love the "nose" picture of the dog. I like that contrast of the "drawn" mountain picture, but I'm not sure the colors are quite right on the first design. I'd love some ideas for that. I love the way the subtitle kind of meanders along the mountains. On the back, I'd like one or two photos of the family, maybe with a frame around it.
What to avoid
We don't need stock imagery for this because I have photos of the dog and the family.
I really like this photo of Murphy. This should be on the front cover.
One sample cover that I really like.
Other sample cover, with the mountain photo (faded) as the background. I think I like the other one better.
