One man's journey to figure out love by looking in the wrong places, talking to odd people, and traveling to crazy countries. <chapter-title> Author’s Note “I am seeing you at a typewriter,” Beverly anxiously blurted out 32 seconds into our video call. She was in Los Angeles, and I was sitting on a park bench 5,000 miles away. For the next thirty minutes she meandered through a variety of topics including a primal witch doctor, archangels, a lotus flower, sun activations, and muckraking in the 1930’s. A friend had gifted me a psychic session with her. “Are you in the process of creating something new or writing something,” she finally took a breath and asked. “Yeah, a book about love.” Love is the most complicated, painful, confusing, wonderful, goofy, complex, mystical thing I have ever tried to understand. So was my session with Beverly. I never planned on writing this book. Hell, I never planning on writing a book period. I can barely spell and failed English in high school. I also never planned on being 47 years old, single, and still trying to figure out love. So, let’s get on with it. I decided to write this book because I was tired of all the boring self-help books, looney therapists, and bachelor TV shows making a disaster out of love. I was tired of Disney movies promising us “happily ever after” once we met our “perfect soulmates” and fell “in love at first sight”. I was tired of not being good at love. My journey started a few years ago with one simple question from a business coach. What is your definition of love? It blindsided me. My answer was awful. Since then I have searched the world over for the answers to love. From the backseat of a Toyota truck in Yemen, where I heard a beautiful love story from a broken man, to a snake-handling Preacher in Kentucky. I sat in a dirty motel room with a 28-year-old-homeless girl who was HIV positive and riddled with cancer and then spent time with Ralph, who was 101 years old. Through it all I have asked everyone I meet the same three questions: <numbered1> 1. What's your definition of love? <numbered1> 2. How many times have you been in love? <numbered1> 3. Do you love yourself? My hope is you find love in these pages and let it become contagious in your life. I actually think it's pretty simple, and through my travels around the world and the people I have met, I've found that love is right in front of us. It's always right in front of us if we just open our eyes. You are going to LOVE this book if you are tired of eating pizza alone on Friday nights, sick of self-help books, and want to step up your love game. This book is for anyone who has ever been in love, wants to find love, or needs to rediscover self-love. Over the next 33 chapters we will laugh together, cry together, and love together.
