Where Eagles Dare / Waar Adelaars Durven
I'm a 22 year old from Belgium, I spend my time working, gaming and writing down my fantasies and stories. I'm active on Wattpad where I won a prize with my other story 'Nightfall' for Best Sci-Fi story in 2019. One day, I want to become a police officer in my city of Antwerp and, maybe, make it as a successful writer.
For more explanation about the story, feel free to ask ;-) (I would like to ask you that, if you have won, you could make a version in english and in dutch, as I write in both languages.) (ENGLISH) A land on fire. A king dethroned. A world at war. A people in desperate need of a saviour. Far away from his homeland, a mysterious girl called Talia finds a broken and lost man, an Eagle King and his army, crushed by 3 years of brutal civil war. She convinces them to go on a suicide mission and retake their homeland from the tyrant, King Valens, as she tries to hide her dark past and escape from a force that wants her back. This is an epic tale of huge proportions, love, courage and sacrifice... (DUTCH) Een land in brand.
Everyone that loves a (hopefully good) fantasy novel. The tone of the story is more in line of The Lord of The Rings, a slight touch of A Song of Ice and Fire, King Arthur (2017) and Elder Scrolls. So think of this as a 12+ story with some really dark moments.
Book cover type
Don’t know yet
I have put in a document of the cover that I currently use on Wattpad. I made it myself with some small effort to get the message across. I'm a really big fan of the letters and certainly the golden glow around them (I do mean GLOW, don't set the letters on fire) The title is of course the main thing I want to pop, hence the glow. My name can be small with a simple font. (not 3D, unlike the title) Other than that, I really love the idea of an eagle on fire, it perfectly captures the tone and backstory of the land they are in. (Eagles are sacred and their gods are eagle nebulas or stars in the sky and their king is called Eagle King) Other ideas/scenes/locations from the book that you might find useful: - Dawndale is the capitol of Vadaton (land) and it's where the story begins and ends. The city is described as a large circular city with a giant tower in the middle of it, called the Arpton Citadel. At the end of the story the Climactic battle occurs there, outside of its walls. (Imperial City from Elder Scrolls was a major influence on it) style of building it is based off of is ancient roman and greek architecture. - At one point in the story, the Villain, Valens, goes to an abandoned old temple that once belonged to the Eazor, an evil monstrous kind that shows up near the end. This temple looks overgrown, grand and wrecked. The Eazor built it in the mountainside. It looks so haunting that no one has ever visited it in a thousand years, covered in shadow by huge trees. The villain breaks the massive front gate with his magic, which shatters it. - There is a mountain range called the Horizon Mountains, this mountain range is important because the heroes have to go around and through it to get to the villain and Dawndale. It's called that because of the mountains being the horizon of the valley Dawndale was built in. (Dawndale is not far from it). - The color GOLD is very central to the culture of Vadaton. The great deity Acreum is represented by a golden eagle and the sun. The Eagle King wears a golden colored armor, you get the point. - Vadatonian culture revolves a lot around the nightsky. So Dark blue is also a color that is used by many characters and gods. The blue I mean is that Night Blue that you see in the starry skies. Finally, I want to say that it's totally fine to submit more than one design if you want to. Good Luck.
What to avoid
I don't really know. There's so much to the story that I want to be conveyed by the cover. I'm pretty sure I don't want people on the cover, if you think you can surprise me and change my mind, feel free to do so. Also, don't add the glow to my name's letters, use a simple, yet pleasing, font. For the main title, do NOT use a font that gives vibes of Narnia or Neverending Story, those type of fonts don't convey the message or tone of the story. Also, look into the species of eagle you are using, if it has a white head; it's a BALD eagle, not a golden eagle.
It all began with a design brief.
A quick, interactive guide helped them understand their design style and captured exactly what they needed in their book cover.
Designers across the globe delivered design magic.

Edward was timely, creative, and skilled. He generated an eye-catching design, quickly incorporated requested modifications, and the end product turned to be a great poster for our movie. Thanks, Edward!
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
