The Hourglass Garden
James Weathers lives in Windermere, Florida with his wife, two daughters and more pets than he'd like to admit. He continues to work as a producer in the commercial and live entertainment industry. With a background in writing scripts, this is his first foray into writing a fictional novel inspired by both his fascination with the universe and, as always, a good love story.
Jacob Wilhelm, a Sonoma Valley wine maker, places himself into cryogenics after suffering from terminal cancer. Suspended in a deep freeze for more than four centuries, he is awakened and revived as part of a research project by The World Space Agency. With courageous spirit he rises above the unimaginable challenges presented by a world ruled by an age sustaining drug and a new world order to find his remaining family, his soul mate for a second time and ultimately, a chance to travel to a distant world.
Adult male and female sci-fi and romantic novel fans 18 years and older.
Book cover type
6" x 9" cover. I'm thinking collage-style design that includes some of story's themes - grape vines (vineyard), cryogenic pods, futuristic spaceship, a distant world, a silhouette of Jacob. Descriptions from book - cryogenic pods (The dust of four centuries blanket the four pods that stand on end - like fragile eggs defying gravity), The Monarch Spaceship (The Monarch rests poised on its launch pad; its wings unfurled, reaching out across the lunar soil. Its carbon fiber bronze and blue exterior glistens as if a fine mist was resting on its surface), Jacob (handsome white male 38 years old), New world (Proxima Centauri b). Modern looking fonts, but the overall design should give a sense of both old-world/pastoral ( 1990's vineyard) and new-world futuristic. The juxtaposition of both might be interesting. The mood should be a mix of pastoral and futuristic courageous voyage to new worlds. Ok, go ahead and laugh, get it out of your system!
