Second Coming - THE RETURN
R. F. Price
Best-selling author R.F. PRICE embarks on a riveting journey and preeminent sequel to the greatest story ever told. The ultimate dramatization of WWJD, “What Will Jesus Do?”
Is the appearance of the Star of Bethlehem on December 21, 2020 a sign that Jesus has returned, or a coincidence that hasn’t occurred in centuries? Jupiter and Saturn, two of the largest planets in our solar system, aligned to create what’s referred to as the Christmas Star. Historians speculate that what the Magi saw for Christ’s birth were also astronomical conjunctions. Is the COVID-19 pandemic, the collapse of global economies, decades of endless wars in the middle east, and violent civil unrest connected to set in motion an ancient prophesy foretold in the bible? Jesus has returned… are you ready? Your life will never be the same.
This is a Christian - fiction book. A "Christian Suspense Thriller" is a mix of Nicholas Sparks (warm - feel-good story) meets Dan Browns (suspense - thriller). Will be marketed to Christian readers primarily within that genre, however, general fiction/suspense readers would also like the book, too. Demographics readers expected to be 70% women / 30% men, age range from the early 30s - early 60s.
Book cover type
The expected format is a 6x9 paperback and an ebook for sales on Amazon. Additionally, a matching ACX audiobook cover will be needed. This story takes place "today," so the story's version of Jesus is a modern, casual Jesus (wearing Jeans and a jacket). The story takes place between December 21 - 24th. It starts on 12/21, the night of the reemergence of the "Bethlehem Star" that actually occurred. Jesus returns by appearing in a commercial jet that encounters a bad storm, deep purple and black clouds, which is a metaphor for him returning "on the clouds" as written in the Bible. The story's heroine is a young ER doctor, (Joanne), who will become the first new disciple of Jesus. Joanne is a single mother of a young girl that is dying of childhood leukemia, (Gabi). The villain, of course, is Lucifer. (Again, a modern version of a man, not the cartoonish character). And, "J", or Jesus, a modern day, blue jean wearing, leather jacket, clean cut guy of our times. The cover should visually draw the reader into wanting to know more about the story. It should speak "A story they may have heard about - and at the same time oh, a bit of a thriller that intrigues them enough to want to buy it. The cover has to do that. I have had three other fiverr designers attempt the design unsuccessfully - their versions don't pull the reader into the book. One design, however, has a visual that I do like - Jesus and some birds flocked around him forming the image of wings around him... I also like the font used and the color for the title/subtitle on that example I dislike the mountain trees on the cover... doesn't fit given the story takes place in winter/in Louisville, KY (a city) with a lot of activity around a hospital ER. I'm interested in what another designer can create - I don't have "THE" cover yet. I don't "require" any specific elements - I'm open to the designer's vision.
What to avoid
I Don't want to completely rule them out, however, avoid, if possible, the contemporary illustration of Jesus in a robe garment from the bible or elements from the crucifixion/resurrection/ascension. This is going to be a hard task - for this story's purpose of this story, those were in the past. If the designer is inspired and can visually connect a moment from Jesus' history to this story, I'm open. Just trying to come up with something fresh, original, and not making the cover feel corny or tired. So NOT ruling it out, just cautious about overly using those visuals.
