With so many design projects accepting entries at any given time, there’s no shortage of opportunities to find work, build client relationships, learn new skills and have fun at 99designs.

But how do you find the right design projects to work on?

Everyone will have different criteria for determining what the right project is so here are some ways to refine your search.

Choose a category

The default view on the browse contests page shows all the current open projects lumped together. This can seem overwhelming – especially if you have a particular are of interest or expertise.

You can limit your search to a specific category, such as logo or web design, to better focus on your skill set. Or if you prefer to go by a specific interest or aesthetic, try filtering by industry.

99designs contest sort

You can sort contests by:

  • Prize amount
  • Most recent
  • Time remaining
  • Number of entries

To really refine your search for the perfect design project, you’ll need to take advantage of our search filters located to the right of Categories and Industries tabs:

You can refine your project search using a combination of one or more of the following search filters:

  • Keyword

  • Guaranteed only
  • Blind only
  • Platinum contests
  • Language
  • Contest status

For example, you could use search filters to find all the blind logo projects that end within 2 days and have guaranteed prizes greater than $400.

Watch contests

See a contest that looks interesting, but aren’t ready to submit yet? Click the “Watch” button:

By doing so, the contest will be saved in the “Your contests” folder so you can come back when you’re ready. You will also receive contest status notifications via email.

You can regulate how often you receive these emails by going into “Account settings” and selecting the “Notifications” tab:

Here you’ll be able to choose the frequency:

  • As they happen
  • In a digest every 6 hours
  • In a digest twice a day
  • In a daily digest

You can also decide what emails you receive about the contest based on brief changes, prize increases and client comments. This is ideal so you can stay in tune with the contest without having to check it as frequently.
