99designs is pushing up for charity: Help us raise money for DonorsChoose.org!

Jason Aiken

Our San Francisco office (the rest of our team are in Melbourne and London) is participating in a unique challenge May 17th, and we thought you just might want to know about it! The first-ever Startup Pushup Charity Challenge pits 99designs against four other great Bay Area startups (Udemy, Zaarly, HotelTonight and GitHub) in a relay-style competition to see which team can pump out 100 pushups the fastest – all to benefit five fantastic charities. Each company will have its own theme song (suggestions welcome!) and costumes, and it should be a lot of fun.

We’ve chosen to support DonorsChoose.org, which connects donors with teachers who need classroom supplies. The other not-for-profits being supported include LiveStrong, Muttville Senior Dog Rescue, Kiva Kip and charity: water. Each company must raise at least $2,500 for their selected charity, and the money will be pooled. The winning team will receive 60% of it to donate to its charity, and each other team will get 10%. So, at the end of the day, there are no losers – all of these worthy organizations will benefit!

Check out our short video, below, and if you can, visit this site and make a donation. Anything at all will help – and 99designs is matching all donations dollar-for-dollar!

A bit of a push-up fanatic yourself? Like this cause and our video? We encourage you to spread the word via Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and any other social networks you’re a part of. (Here’s a direct link to the video: http://bit.ly/IzSrXL.) The more we can get the word out, the more money we can give to these charities helping people (and pets!) around the world.

Thank you!

Graphic design is in a very flat phase right now—designed on and often for computer screens. Leading designers have adapted to this new condition by avoiding 3D illusions and instead focusing on striking shapes and outlines, rendered in bold, unmodulated color areas. Does this mean the end of texture in graphic design? Not at all. On…

A creative approach to finding seasonal color palettes

Working with seasonal color palettes is a great way to approach the mood-shifting nature of design, allowing the designer to capture a specific temperature, feeling and atmosphere in a concise and consistent way. 18 chic & modern ways to use color blocking

Color blocking is nothing new. It’s long been designers’ go-to trick for chopping up large pieces of content, crafting call-outs and adding visual interest to an otherwise plain page. But in today’s design world, color blocking has evolved into a stunning minimalist trend that’s a perfect fit for spring.
