Whoever said coloring books are just for kids?

Adult coloring books have been rapidly gaining popularity as a fun way to get offline and boost creative energy, relaxation and stress relief. That’s why we loved it when Brit + Co, the girl-powered DIY media and e-commerce platform, put a call out to 99designers and their own community to dream up full-page coloring patterns inspired by the world around us.

Now we’re so excited to announce the launch of Pattern Play, the first-ever crowdsourced coloring book for grownups, which lands on Target shelves and Brit + Co’s online shop today. Published by Crayola and curated by Brit + Co, the book’s 78 pages feature hand-drawn illustrations from more than 50 different artists (out of over 1,400 submissions).

Beyond basic geometric patterns, the illustrations dive deeper into playful nostalgia and pop culture “to stimulate creative flow in a simple, beautiful way.” Don’t be surprised to find yourself coloring retro mix tapes one moment and a page full of feathers the next.

The best part? All of the pages are one-sided to avoid bleeding and are easy to rip out – perfect for filling those empty frames!

Pattern Play is offered at $9.99 exclusively at Target stores and Target.com in the DIY section surrounded by Crayola coloring products.

A big congratulations to all of our 99designers featured in this first-of-it’s-kind adult coloring book!

Is this the year of illustration?

Illustration dates back long before the invention of writing. We are talking cave painting—Lascaux and Altamira to be precise.
