Kerstin got their new banner ad by running a design contest:
Create 'Postdoc Career Success' program banner - plus further design opportunities
Check out Kerstin's Banner ad contest…
We are a specialist training provider for early career researchers (PhD-level staff of universities). Our program ‘Postdoc Career Success’ is a 7-month long training program for those who have recently finished their PhD (within the last 5-8 years) and are now working as junior researchers at universities (usually referred to as 'postdocs'). The program helps participants to be strategic and pro-active about their career as well as learn important time, people and project management skills. Apart from the online based training material we also support participants with 1-on-1 mentoring and other interactive features (webinars, email support, creating support groups at their local institution etc.). Target market: 1. Junior researchers employed at universities. They are the participants in the course and some will pay for this themselves. Age group 25-40, male and female 2. University administrators and senior academics (age 30-60, male and female) Those in target market 2 will often be the one paying for the course so marketing needs to appeal to both target markets 1 and 2.
What's your vision?
Please design a banner for our 'Postdoc Career Success' program (and we are looking for a new designer to work with). This banner will be used for marketing the program both on the website as well as (in modified form to suit format) in print (pull-up banner, brochure). - Words on banner: Postdoc Career Success (big print) 'a program by PostdocTraining' (smaller print) Design guide: - Banner should look similarly fresh, clean and simple as the existing company logo and the program banner for Career Control for Researchers (see images attached and company page at www.postdoctraining.com). - Banner should echo elements of the parent branding (such as colours), and - for example - can include elements of the brand logo pictorial mark (such as the ‘road’ like feature at the bottom of the PostdocTraining pictorial). - While the target audience tends to be of the rational and often introverted type it would be good to have soft, possibly people-based elements in the design, especially showing that this program involves personalised support and mentoring. Pain points of our clients are intense competition, isolation and lack of guidance for career decisions - so guidance and support are key elements of our services. - Postdoc Career Success Program (PCSP) banner should be noticeable different from ‘Career Control from Researchers' program (CC4R) banner - as a guide (compared to CC4R) PCSP is the more expensive program, is for slightly more senior researchers, it is a more comprehensive and longer program, involves mentoring and more personalised support. CC4R has a grid in the design to signify its main aim to create a career plan. We are looking for your creative ideas of what would be good key design elements for PCSP. - Don’ts: target audience does not respond well to corporate images (dollar sign / money as sign of success; suit and tie etc.) - Colours: brand colours are Green RGB 104, 201, 40 / Blue RGB 94, 136, 206. Both blue and green with linear gradient in logo. Black of logo writing RGB 61,61,61). - Banner size: to suit web: 940px wide and 120px high (hight can be increased a little if needed for design). For consistancy we would like to use this banner (or a version of it) also for print (brochure, flyer) - File output: So it can be edited in Illustrator CS3. Really looking forward to seeing your great designs!
We are looking for a new designer so if we like your design and working with you we would like to follow-up with 1-on-1 projects (pull-up banner, brochure, flyer). *NOTE: Looking for banner for the top of our homepage, not an actual banner ad that appears all over the web. Please keep that in mind.*
Every design category has flexible pricing for all budgets. Banner ad starts at $49.

And then… they selected a winner!
This was our 3rd project with Skala Art and as before we enjoyed the friendly and efficient interactions and very quick turn-around. We had a very short deadline and Jelena went out of her way to make sure we meet the deadline for printing. The design of the flyer looks great and we are very happy with the result. Will certainly engage Skala Art again.
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
We think contests are a super fun way to get design.
