Brief Update: 14/07/2015
We require an anatomically accurate, photo realistic 3D model of an Adult Head Louse. To help you visualise the Head Louse, we have provided real life images showing the insect in close detail. Please do not make the mistake of modelling a Crab Louse which has a much shorter body length and which do not infest humans.
We need the 3D model to be as manipulable as possible within the budget of the contests monetary value. Head, legs and antennae should be able to bend where there are obvious joints.
Your model should definitely possess WOW FACTOR. We would perceive this to be delivered via attention to detail, texturing quality, lighting, the final pose that you set and the quality of the final render - although we may request a specific pose or camera angle after the modelling of the Head Lice has been completed.
We certainly require a fully rendered Head lice but against a stark white background with only subtle shading to provide depth. Beyond this, we would be extremely grateful if the Head Lice were to be rendered among 5 to 10 hair follicles. Head Lice feed on the scalp and lay their eggs in hair, typically within a 2 cm height from the skin and rarely venturing beyond this 'living zone'.
One aspect of animation that we are considering is to be able to view the Head Lice from 360 degrees.
Example: Website visitor moves their mouse curses over the 3D image and can rotate the insect both vertically and horizontally, viewing from all angles.
Question: is this a simple or difficult animation to achieve?
It's important for all artists to understand that this contest is definitely not the end of the project but rather the start of an on going collaborative relationship. Long term, we will need to render our Head Louse in different positions and scenarios including some potential animations, so we ask you all, very graciously, to please consider these factors when modelling the Head Louse.
We will definitely be extending the contest beyond Friday the 17th of July, for at least another 4 days.
Any questions - please contact us through the 99-Designs messaging system.
Please - Blow us away! And trust us, it will be well worth your efforts ;-)

The 3D Illustration (not animation at this point)
Minimalistic but anatomically correct, modern 3D image of an adult female head louse. We would like to animated the lice but this will be discussed after the competition with the winner, as separate works.
Full body view
Moveable parts and appendages
Flip top to view inside?
Zoomed in detailing
1 Beak in context of feeding patterns, holding on to the human scalp
2 Claws to hold on to hair
3 Respiratory system abdomen/trachea
4 Digestive system
5 Feeding patterns, digestive system, change of color after feeding on blood
Animation requirements are a future consideration to be approached as a next step project:
In the context of website content regarding human habits supporting head lice infestations, create a 3D animation of head louse developing a happy, calm or satisfied appearance over a period of 5 seconds.
Idea - maybe the lice is posed in a seated or reclined stance, front legs casually folded behind its head, chilled out.
In the context of web site content about human habits preventing head lice infestations, create a 3D animation of head louse developing an unhappy or agitated appearance over a period of 5 seconds.
Idea - perhaps pose the lice in a defensive, aggressive stance. Front legs up and claws open wide.
