Thanks CH for 4stars rating and congrats psygn. :)
We've narrowed the selection down to the top entries. For those that were eliminated, there were various reasons - some were eliminated for not following the spec (such as not having the 'server message' area). In some cases, for those of you who submitted multiple designs, we may have eliminated earlier revisions or revisions we thought were not as good as others that were submitted.
Expect our winner to be chosen soon!
Thanks for all the submissions everyone. I'm pulling the team together and you should start to see eliminations as we narrow down the winner.
I wish private submissions were doable.
Thanks to the other four-star submission for ripping much of my design's structure.
You know who you are. Oh well, can't expect too much from spec work :)
Good luck to all!
I've run these contests by the rest of my team - I'll be updating existing entries with additional feedback.
I will also be submitting soon. Nice contest!
#2 - Thanks for the submission. It appears that the 'Server Message' portion is missing (it's part of the "Items I Want" section of the brief.) Also, might I suggest making each section appear more 'distinct?'
#3 - Nice use of rollovers and a contrasted look with the green highlighting. Your design is also missing the 'Server Message' portion.
The WBS/CE/WDC are somewhat important fields so having them at the top is needed. When I get into work, I'll talk to the rest of the staff about an appropriate header - but for now, let's call that section 'Filters'
@ RJ Scott: Hi, where do you suggest WBS, CE, and WDC could go? I am not familiar with these terms and therefore don't know where I could place them intuitively.
I will upload the table design soon.
Thanks!
in.. :)
im am in.,
I will have a design or two submitted tomorrow afternoon or evening sorry for the delay.
@ RJ Scott: Yes, the BG will be able to stretch horizontally + vertically. Here is a site where the background image scales horizontally and vertically: http://www.cssplay.co.uk/layouts/background.html
As for the Sort/Group box, I am not sure if it's doable in CSS alone. I have seen something like it before but I can't remember now. Here is an example of something similar done in jQuery: http://ui.jquery.com/demos/sortable If you get a coder well versed in AJAX/jQuery/Javascript this should be doable :)
I can always mimic the native HTML look if you want me to.
And can you elaborate on the "WBS/CE/WDC" part? Like where you would consider placing it in my current design? Is it an entirely different section, or can it be placed below the fold anywhere?
Thanks!
I am entering. I should have an entry to you within a few hours
I thought of some more items for #1 - I like the BG - but I'm wondering - if the browser window is larger than that, even though the main content seems fixed, is the BG going to be able to stretch to fill up the entire screen?
Also -- and this is more of a 'wonder' on my part and by no means a flaw with your design -- the Sort/Group box on the main form is an HTML <select> box - ideally I'd like the same control to be used but I'm not sure if I have that much control over the looks of it (i.e, your selected item shows in blue, doesn't fill the entire box - is this doable with CSS?)
Thanks for #1 - very impressed with what you've come up with so far. I especially like the server message area - it stands out nicely and has some very nice formatting. The WBS/CE/WDC part up near the top might need broken out though into its own section; it appears to be part of the 'Project' section (though I suspect our screen shots didn't show that so maybe it is OK how it is...)
