Apple allow and invite use of their images through as part of their own PR campaign ~ see http://www.apple.com/pr/products/ ~ so to use them to legitimately promote Apple products via editorial is deemed accepable according to their terms and conditions. See - http://www.apple.com/pr/products/ip…ement.html

Not to diminish the core principle of image ownership, just to place it in context in this instance. In particular my use of their images in the templates I've submitted...

I think the whole thing hinges on whether you are promoting genuine products from the company involved in an unbiased manner - versus whether you are deriving income in the process from affiliate, Google Ads or direct sales.

Any web site wanting to use such images for commercial purposes would be advised to have the relevant products shot in a studio setting and isolated against a white or transparent background, adding reflections using Photoshop or similar software.

Hence the note on my own submission that images were from Apple's site.

I'm a newbie - only joined today - so sorry if I've unwittingly breached rules or trodden on toes ....

Great point. We requested a silhouette of an ipod and sound system for the logo in the contest brief. Hopefully future entries will keep that in mind.

Beware of copyright issues when using product images from various companies.... unless you have permission to use them.
