BTW anyone else who thinks it stinks they have removed the CSS bidding on this site please post your complaints here

    http://99designs.wordpress.com/2008…y-changes/

I was jst about to post two new competitions for you guys to bid on and have just realised the owners of this site are preventing me from doing this.

    WTF is with this??

If you dont want to bid on CSS work then thats fine dont and only submit in the design only section - but this dictatorial decision is crazy.

Until this is changed I'm not going to be able to offer you guys more work and I cant believe only 33 people have complained about it so far.

I mean what am I supposed to do with a pretty design - it's like getting something halfbuilt and expecting "some user assembly required - if I could do it myself you wouldn't be making money out of me in the first place".

    Contest is closed.

I ended up overpaying DemonHale $350 plus I've also asked Chris to bid on some other work.

I also paypaled some bonuses to other designers who introduced some neat design ideas I hadn't considered so am happy with the process.

I should be placing some more competitions soon so keep an eye out.

    Cheers,
    Dean

Thank you for choosing Designer Graphics 9, www.dg9.org Design. Coded Files delivered and payment received. My feedback for the CH: Mr. Collins is pleasant to deal with and our transaction was without a hitch, successful and completed.

Hi All - thankyou so much for submitting your work.

I have pretty much chosen DemonHale as the winner - I am just waiting to see it coded successfully into CSS. As soon as this is done then I will process the payouts etc.

Until then please done submit any more designs or spend any more time on tweaks.

will confirm here in a few days contest is finished.

    once again thanks,

    Cheers,
    Dean

Hey guys - super thrilled with all the submissions in less than 18 hours so as such I'm going to shorten the contest down to only 4 days.

If I could pull bits and pieces that i like from all of them i would by 90% of the way there and i reckon by this time tomorrow will pretty mcuh have finalised top 3 etc.

A couple of you already earned paypal bonuses for one or two points that really stood out.

Keep it up - email or call if you have any questions.

    Cheers,
    Dean Collins

Question. Will you accept Western Union as payment

Answer. if I have to - though prefer paypal. but understand it's an issue for some countries.

would need to have the final design in total on my site and happy with everything as there is no 'reversal' with western union if there is a problem getting the final content.

    Cheers,
    Dean

@ pontypete - just so you know, you should be submitting your design via the 'submit an entry' button (just a blank box with a url on it isn't enough). You can link to a working copy of the site in your feedback comments, but people should be able to see your design :-)

Question. I've been asked via PM if a horizontal nav bar is a possible solution?

Answer. if this fits an existing template you have as long as you increase the side margins to 20% instead of 15% as indicated on www.cognation.net/webdesign

You might also want to experiment with two colums in the body instead of 1 though some pages have a lot of content so would requre a '...cont' hyperlink to the second or third page.

    cheers,
    Dean

From Nadia P To Dean @ Cognation Date Thu Mar 6 09:48 Subject Re: similar look Hi Dean,
I'll have to get back to you tomorrow on this - it's nearly 2am here and I've got a rotten headache and need some sleep :-)
Just quickly though, the main navigation on that sample is at the top under the header images which have been given a bit of a web2 look with a gradient on the buttons. The links on the right are just meant to be links they are not actually 'buttons', just seem that way because of the vertical line separating the text.
    Nite !!
    Nadia

hi nadia your bead design is a simlar look for what I'm after in my design in that it's a virtual vertical plane on a background.
all you would need to do is center the logo across all pages, move the nav bars to the left instead of the right and change the colours.
the only question is can you get the glossy look for buttons and right background gradient.
dont worry about the java script for the page movement I think I can probably change any css layout you implement anyway.

    cheers,
    Dean

P.S> in case anyone is wondering the reason I'm posting this here is to give the best feedback to all the designers eg. a horizontal nav bar is a possible solution if this fits an existing template you have as long as you increase the side margins to 20% instead of 15% as indicated on www.cognation.net/webdesign

You might also want to experiment with two colums in the body instead of 1 though some pages have a lot of content so would requre a '...cont' hyperlink to the second or third page.

    Dean

    Hi Nadia,

Thanks for your input. Basically it is a single page site.

There are no differences between each of the pages apart from the body content (which I'm going to be editing anyway).

Apart from the javascript page movement this is more an 'artistic' endeavour than a css programming project.

Also with all respect to yourself (seeing I'm from Australia as well), I wouldn't expect someone from Australia or the USA to be able to do the work for that kind of money. The last two projects I've place here were both one by people in eastern europe where $200 'IS' spot on for the 4 to 5 hours required to modify an existing template they already have.

    Cheers,
    Dean

Dean, the prize on offer doesn't really cover the work required. According to the guidelines, a *one* page design/coded template starts at $200. For the compensation you offer, you will most definitely need to keep an eye on the quality of finished coded pages that you receive. If you added the possible 'bonuses' you mention to the total you may get the more experienced designers/coders participating in your contest - just a thought :-)
