Contest just ended, good luck everyone.
Wow. A few more really nice looking entries. Pretty much everything looks great. As you can see, I've rated most of the designs as 4-stars. Let me know if you have any direct questions or would like feedback on specific entries. Also, please keep in mind that the users at SearchKindly.org will be chiming into the conversation when the contest closes. Thanks!
I'm not sure that adding a thermometer and Vote-link or section is important, but I thought I'd just throw those out there in case anyone was interested some more elements to work with. The thermometer has been very useful to use in the past, but I'm open to all new ideas. The same goes for the voting-section. The votes are what used to give us the most traffic, but we haven't had a poll in awhile, so I'm not sure that voting needs to have the same prominence that it once did. What are your thoughts?
Having a continuation of developing material to maintain a personal touch is definitely a broadly encouraged concept and valuable marketing skill. Keep material that's continually published on a static-page, so everybody knows where to go, to access them. But having something this personally-circumstantial on the front page, in most cases, comes off as unprofessional in context. So to appeal to the business-class of contributors, keep "social" elements in the blog section where they can be unobstructed to the focal point(s) of your site, but followed by the wanting.
It looks like there has been another 7 entries--great! I noticed the use of some colors other than blue, which I think is fine. I know that I am partial to blue--and from what I've read in some science journal abstracts, blue invokes a feeling of trust and loyalty--but this does not mean that blue is a requirement (especially since color scheme was not mentioned in the brief). I was surprised to see how much I liked the coloring in #4 and #7--really nice. But maybe if they incorporated just a tad more blue in the design? I don't know, just a thought. This is really the decision of the designer.
Thanks for including the three ad boxes--it really helps to keep things in the proper perspective.
I'll be responding to each entry individually now.
#1, #2, and #3 are nice designs. Very clean and simple. Of the three, my preference is #3. I especially like the info-banner at the bottom of that page that talks about how Search Kindly works and also has a PayPal button.
I'd like to make one request for all future entries: Please include the advertisements (300x250 pixel box ads) in the design so we can see how the design is impacted by the ads.
Unfortunately, it's the advertising that makes Search Kindly possible. Thanks!
The contest holder has guaranteed to award the $250 prize!
