Design brief

Brief Overview

Search Kindly is an Illinois-based Not-for-Profit corporation. Our goal is to allow everyone to, in some way, help us make a difference. And one of the easiest ways to help is by visiting this website on a regular basis. Because thousands of micro-volunteers chose to support Search Kindly over the past two years, we have been able to donate thousands of dollars to dozens of deserving charitable organizations and hope to soon begin work on our own chariable projects.

We are able to raise money for donations and charitable causes--which our users select--by offering a place for people to search the internet while being inundated with advertising. Our users know that the advertising is how we make our money, so they are supportive of this and tolerate the annoyance.

Feel free to see how much we've been able to raise--and donate--in the past. You can see the cleared donation checks on this page:

http://www.searchkindly.org/proof_of_giving.php

Over the course of the last few years, we've been been able to raise and donate over $15,000. This may not seem like a lot, but that's where the redesign of the websites comes into play. We'd like some help in making the user experience better. All ideas will be welcomes with open arms.

Brand Name

If you're going to search, why not Search Kindly? http://SearchKindly.org

Target Audience

We are targeting anyone who would rather access Google (and possibly Bing and Yahoo) from our page rather than going to those search engines directly. Basically, our target market is anyone who uses the internet and is also interested in doing a bit of good at the same time.

From surveys that we've conducted in the past, we know that our audience age-range is from early-20s to mid-40's. We also have slightly more women than men at a 65:35 ratio.

Generally speaking, our typical user is just a regular person who is trying to do a little bit of good any way that they can.

Requirements

Before getting started with your design, please take some time to review the current website:

http://www.searchkindly.org/index.php

After going through the site, we'd like you to design *two pages* for us. One will be the initial search-only page. This can be as simple as Google's or as busy as Yahoo's. The only requirement of the search-only page is that it have space for three (3) big-box advertisements (300 x 250 pixels). Examples of these can be found if you scroll down a bit on the current site. You are welcome to include more than three ads on the search-only page, but I'm guessing that our users will only tolerate so much (but if it's well-designed, maybe they will tolerate more). These ads are how Search Kindly raises the money that it donates and uses for its own charitable projects.

The second page is the equivalent of our current home page. We're really opening up the canvas to you, so please let your imagination run wild. The only thing we require is that the design include four (4) big box ads that appear before a user is required to scroll down.

Also, like we said in the subtitle, the winner of this contest is likely to be asked to design the rest of the site. And if you're concerned about not receiving enough feedback during the contest, please check out the other contests that we've held. We're really good about communicating during the contest.
