PS: Just re-read your posst and this struck me a bit as odd "I think I will show him what has been posted and see what comments he sends back."

Have you not showed him the entries from this contest as yet?

Sounds very frustrating, particularly with a client that doesn't give you any input. Quite a few contest holders will select a winning design regardless whether the client picks one or not - this goes to show respect for the work put into the contest by the designers and goes towards the contest holders' reputation. However, of course, as per the guidelines, you do not need to declare a winner.

How are you come up with a concept if you have no idea what his likes/dislikes are? If he doesn't even look at these submitted designs and offer ways to improve them to his liking, I am not sure that another contest will get you any further in all honesty.

You could hold contest after contest, but if he doesn't give you some direction, you'll be putting in hours that are totally unrewarding, whether billable or not for you and designers here will be submitting entries, again with no guidelines as to direction and possibly another contest without any winner.

I showed him about 3-4 different layouts that were all the same caliber and quality as the entries and he just said good ideas lets see what else we can come up with... He hasn't given me ANY example sites, color schemes, or any direction other than what I've provided here. If he doesn't like any of these I am going to have to charge him more and I'll post another contest with a higher prize.

I'm at a loss! I'm not sure what else to do.. Unfortunately, I have no control over his personal taste.

Nadia: You asked if there is a layout he would prefer to see... great question! I think I will show him what has been posted and see what comments he sends back. There are a few entries I will not be showing the client as they are the quality/direction he is looking for. I will eliminate these shortly.

I would hate to not choose a winner but unfortunately if he does not choose a layout there really is no winner.

Any suggestions? This is my first contest on 99designs so I'm not sure what is proper etiquette...

"Hopefully he chooses a layout! " - that sounds ominouse :-)

Is there any other type of layout you'd like to see that you believe he may prefer??
