Thanks to all the designers who submitted their designs. While defectDS's design needs a few more tweaks, his design style is exactly what the owner was looking for. I think it is a case of "the early bird gets the worm" because he was the first to submit a design that was in line with the brief. Thank you all.

I just removed the burp about Joomla. It is no longer a part of this contest.

I don't know how to code a joomla template but I am good and coding normal layouts. :)
Our hands are full here...will look at the brief again over the weekend.
I got the basic layout done for you, soon as I coem home I will upload it. Then you can see the direction I am going in and then further enhance it.

Wow, 3 days and 1 design. I remember a time when a $1,000 contest on Sitepoint would have designers all over it. I guess times have changed. Inflation maybe?
I am interested in this contest,looks like a fun and challenging project. I Will try to submit a design soon.
Please remember, I just want a working website here. The winner has 2 options:
Option 1. Code it in XHTML/CSS
Option 2. Make it work perfectly in Joomla
You choose. As I said in the brief, Joomla is my preference, but if you don't know how to make a your design work in Joomla, just code it.
I will install Joomla myself. This is not an issue for me. As you can see there are some gaps in my understanding with regard to what is involved in making a Joomla template. Please PM me to further discuss.

i meant something different:
you ask for a coded template but Joomla itself is already coded, so in that case would a Joomla template (like the zip files used normally) be OK, and do you do the modules placement etc. yourself?
or
Can we make a template design in photoshop and cut it into dreamweaver for example with a css.
For me this is a major difference in what you are asking. I think you know the difference and the time involved. Not to forget the trouble of installing Joomla with all the different providers and security rules
Rambler001: If I made this contest for a Joomla template only, it would exclude quite a few entrants. I am looking for the best final outcome from this contest and for that to happen I need all the designers that are interested in $1,000 bucks, not just the designers that can work with Joomla. It's really quite simple.
if you are using Joomla isn't it eassier to just make a template? I mean, the strong point of Joomla is that it is coded allready.
