Congratulations to jdez for a standout entry in #228. This entry will be appearing soon as the background on SitePoint's Twitter page: http://twitter.com/sitepointdotcom

We'd also like to award a consolation prize of $50 to each of the four finalists, Arun Agrawal, blake, jash and Bernadette. We realised that it might be useful to have a few fallback options to rotate on our Twitter background when we're in need of a refresh. So these designers may also see their design appear on the SitePoint Twitter page at some stage down the track, assuming they are happy to handover their designs for this purpose.

Please help me in congratulating all of the winners!

Thanks to *everyone* who entered this contest. The range and depth of talent was amazing.

Any of the remaining five designers not eliminated are in with a chance. I think you'll agree that the quality of the designs that I was forced to reject is an indication of how high the standard has been, and makes it very tough for me to choose a winner.

As I mentioned, this will happen on Monday some time, after I've had a chance to confer with my team.

Wish the five finalists good luck!

    Matt

Just a comment to let you all know that I won't be able to announce a winner until Monday. Just need to get confirmation of my decision from the SitePoint team once I'm in the office.

You're correct about the background alignment, blake!

From the beginning I've made sure that my first concept looks OK on 1280x1024. If you look closely the tagline fits within the 250px space. I believe the stuff (eg. paper, pencil, etc) doesn't all have to completely fit within the left space because leaving it like that gives the design some depth.

I also didn't leave out 1024x768 users. I shrank the logo to fit within a 120px space on the left since that's all you get. I made sure the user gets to see the logo, at least.

And my designs are pretty much just giant 'Fade to Colour' images so they don't cut off sharply for very high resolutions.

just wanted to ask sumthing, pretty dumb :) but, all u ppl are talkin abt 250px workspace on the sides... tht 250px thingy cant be fixed... right? it depends on the total width and height.
so, wat resolution shud the image be off, if we are to leave 250 px workspace?

You have 252px of workspace on the left that your design should fit into, only about three others not including myself currently not eliminated meet that criteria. Jash and Jdez are far beyond the settings and should try to get their designs into that space. Or else a large portion of their design will be covered on twitter.

I have to agree, a couple of the 4 star designs are going to have problems on that left side...
I believe you have a leeway up to about 330px but even at that gutter width, the majority are way over even that amount.

PS: My designs were eliminated, but that was the first thing I made sure was correct about my layouts.
