making it SQUARE to fit it into your design is ok.??
would you make the american express logo into a circle .. ? or the XBOX sphere logo into a triangle..?
wow.. that would be so creative.. i wish i was that creative.

When someone says you have to "match" it with the look of something, it doesn't mean that you have to copy the entire thing as is. Modifying logos for the purpose of blending it with the design is okay. IF someone made it square, then that's what you call "leading it out of the established identity." About the Fedex logo, would it mean that if it's printed black and white, it's not FedEx anymore?

Anyway, this too, is my last message and reaction. :) Peace out...

oh and i wasn't complaining about gradients ..
    (which someone else brought up)
i was just commenting about the likelihood of disappointment
cause it is hard to print gradients

and i said ALL OF OUR designs...
    my design included.

ok one final message / explanation....
im not saying its not. a nice design.. it is...

if he had not shown us anything to follow... but
he has a website that SHOULD match his look...

you added a ring around the logo.

the word "cleaning" in your logo is grey. on his website it is blue..

and you used curved blue background ... again. its a nice look..
it just doesn't match his website..

i know you're just truing to be creative. .... we all want to be creative..

but sometimes the established identity should lead the way...

you wouldn't put a translucent band around the Apple logo ..just to be creative would you?
you use it the way the corporate established look used it..

you would not add a green background behind the FedEx logo..
    it would be always white..

the corporate materials should match.. thats all i'm saying..

Cconsistency in the real world of branding and marketing is more important than just being creative for the sake of it.,
and i found it ironic that consistency is one of his core values.. that's all..

Wow JR.. it seems like you have a lot to say about this contest. Can you tell me where I did not use the "logo and identity" consistently? Complaining about gradients when you did a design with gradients too, right? Act more sport in contests like this. Don't go spatting out at the contest holder or the winner if your design wasn't picked out. But then again, Thanks a lot.

it was not meant as an insult to you ... OR as an "spat" with the contest holder at all.. it was just a what i THOUGHT was a funny observation... intended as a joke.. it was not meant to be a spat with you or the ch.

    so GREAT JOB sandman!
i wish I had teh creativity to come up with that idea like yours,
where when one puts a long name like say Robert Jonathan Rcihardson, on the card,
it goes RIGHT OVER the company logo..
that's very creative.. so congratulations on that! great job!

. once you do get them printed..
and after you're done with your meeting.. : )

can you report on how the gradient printing issue worked out?

    we're curious.

    oh... the irony..!

one of the core values is consistency

and you picked a card that does not use your logo and identity consistently.. o well... LOL : )

i'll chalk it up to your being in a hurry

.. after all , you looked at samivo's entry at least 8 times, and did not notice that it says

DOING THE JOB RIGHT FIRST TIME

    instead of the correct text

DOING THE RIGHT JOB THE FIRST TME

oh well.. it was fun anyway.. wishing you great success on your new business.. .

muttr - i thought the same thing -
guess it will depend on the printing process....

PMS colors.. which i was hoping, (but assume that overnight it IS 4 color printing)
.. then no problem in designs that blend from color to white..

but ones that blend form black to blue to white.. that has to be 4 color process..
which, a good quality printer and proofing should be able to reproduce..
but with overnight printing im afraid ALL off our designs may run that risk of small color variant issue...

apparently no one got the memo that you can't print gradients on business cards very well....
