I'd like a cover that helps stand out a bit more. Currently, the cover is white. It originally was a dark gray, but I didn't like the way it printed on Lulu.com. I think Amazon's printers will turn out better though, which is my next step to get the printed version in Amazon.
As of the time of writing, the Kindle version is #1 ranked in Motivational, #3 in Entrepreneurship, and #7 in Entrepreneurship (globally).
Because this is being printed on a book cover, I think it's best to design using a CMYK profile. I'll leave the design creativity up to you, but here are some pointers that may help:
- I enjoy simplicity. I don't want the cover to overwhelm, but it should be something that stands out when people are browsing the online stores and glancing at the covers. Maybe a dark orange background or a dark gray background would be more suitable.
- If you redesigned the logo as part of the project, that'd be a huge plus (up to you). The current font is Helvetica Neueu. I have yet to find a nice symbol or graphic that conveys the spirit of the book. There doesn't seem to be a universal icon for "open source software", for example, which the title alludes to. The term 'startups' don't seem to have a universal icon associated with them either.
- Mostly, I just want this to stand out when a person is browsing the Amazon Kindle Store. Right now, it doesn't stand out and it's pretty plain.
Some covers I like:
http://www.amazon.com/Founders-Work…C30BH6/ref
http://www.amazon.com/Startup-Compl…MME7HE/ref
http://www.amazon.com/City-Tiny-Lig…1594481865 <- this is really cool, but I don't think that type of design would be within budget, too much illustration
